"your current security settings do not allow this file..."

Post by djmccartney »

When trying to preview certain (most) PDF files, I get the warning: "Your current security settings do not allow this file to be downloaded." (See screen shot).

There is a preview function in another file manger I use (PowerDesk) and there is no issue.

Any thoughts?

Given that XY uses your PDF reader appl, and doesn't do it natively, I'd look at whatever reader you use for that msg.
Still spending WAY TOO much time here! But it's such a pleasure helping XY be a treasure!
(XP on laptop with touchpad and thus NO mouse!) Using latest beta vers when possible.

I use Acrobat Pro X, and have made sure there are no security blocks in the Preferences. Even check the Registry

XY previews these files via ActiveX/Internet Explorer. You will probably get the same message if you drag the PDF into Internet Explorer. You can probably fix the problem by modifying the security settings in Internet Explorer.

I figured as much, and have set all ActiveX permissions to enable with no change in behavior.

Hm, then it might be connected to the reader. Have you tried PDF-XChange Viewer? It's free and works perfectly with XYplorer.

I have to have Acrobat Pro X as the default viewer. I assume the use or installation of any other viewer would need PDF file association? If so, that won't work.

Try checking whether File downloads are enabled.
  1. Open Internet Options
  2. Selected the Security tab.
  3. Ensure Internet is the selected zone.
  4. Select Custom level....
  5. In the Security Settings - Internet Zone dialog:
    1. Scroll down to Downlaods > File download.
    2. Ensure this is set to Enable.
    3. Click OK.
  6. Back in the Internet Properties dialog, click OK or Apply.
  7. Attempt to preview your file in XYplorer.
Any luck?

I had already checked for the Download option.

Here's what I just stumbled on (see screen shot). If if open the Properties window and click on "Unblock", all is good. As stated, some PDF's view fine...some are apparently 'blocked'. These files are submitted from multiple customers so I assume it's some setting on their end which 'blocks' the file.

This unblocking remidy is one-by-one...too time consuming. Anyone know of a batch method?
