Given how useful Info Panel is, why not show it to 1st timer

Post by j_c_hallgren »

Just curious -- why would the default be to NOT show IP on a brand-new-out-of-box trial vers? Had an occasion to go back in time to look at something and used a temp vers (thus trial setup) and was quite surprised to not have IP showing...the safest tab to display thusly would be Properties, I think.
Still spending WAY TOO much time here! But it's such a pleasure helping XY be a treasure!
(XP on laptop with touchpad and thus NO mouse!) Using latest beta vers when possible.

I'd imagine this is in part because the active tab is showing Computer on a fresh install and when a drive is selected all tabs excluding Meta, Find Files, and Report are empty.

I think including a "Welcome to XY" image in <xydata> and starting a fresh copy to showing that in the Preview pane would be a good starting point, but I'm not sure it is worth the increase in installer/archive size. :?

Plus Computer is definitely more useful than <xydata> when starting fresh.

EDIT: A nifty thought with that Welcome image would be if it could somehow be crafted to show "Long Click Me" or similar when in the Preview pane, and show a more detail/messages once the user has activated it with MDBU.

Yes -- good idea! A small JPG shouldn't need more than a handful of KB but still would serve as a sample.

Hummm...I think showing the folder XY just created would be nice so you see some of what was put on your system by the install.

It comes up with dual pane by default so maybe Computer would be on one pane and xydata on the other?
