Office Preview
I plan to improve Office Preview (yes, yes, Breadcrumbs will come as well...). And, tada!, I think about adding support for (one or more) 3rd party file viewer products here. Is there any such product you can recommend? Optimal would be one that costs nothing, shows all Office formats perfectly and quickly (and also WordPerfect!), and integrates with Internet Explorer, so that I can simply load the previewed files into my embedded IE control.
Okay, it can cost something, anything if it's worth it!

Re: Office Preview
Not office, but PDF would be nice (although office supports PDF).
I want XY to serve soft ice cream. Please Don, make XY serve soft ice cream.

There's no such a "suite" product I know of.

Re: Office Preview
I saw 2 ways to preview Office files:
1) Have a dedicated decoder integrated inside XYplorer to read Office files. Softmaker Viewer (free) is excellent (better than Universal Viewer Pro).
2) Let Microsoft Office decode the files, then display via something like an Iframe. Universal Viewer Free is surely the best.
I prefer the second method because it can display the format 100% accurate.

Re: Office Preview
1. Does Universal Viewer Free integrate with Internet Explorer? I.e. can you preview documents, e.g. XLS, within IE (via the so-called ActiveX technology)?
2. I just made some experiment with another product, Quick View Plus, and it works very well. Needs a tiny adjustment (comes with next beta) to also work with DOC in XY, but all the other office formats work out of the box. You probably need to install the 32-bit version of Quick View Plus, but I'm not sure. (I had some -- cough -- problems here with MS, IE, and Win7 this morning which I can only describe with words so Colognian that it would get me straight to prison for linguistic abuse. I gave up short before jumping out of the window. So if anybody here has IE 64 bit and Quick View Plus 64-bit I would like to ask him some questions concerning Office preview in XY...) Any experiences with Quick View Plus anybody?
3. Can anybody send me a WPD document (WordPerfect), or a link to one. Just cannot find one on the web...

Re: Office Preview
1. Universal Viewer Free does not integrated with IE, but I suspect that it does use ActiveX.
3. I don't have. WordPerfect's lack support for Unicode is a no go for me http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WordPerfec ... ge_editing
btw, XYplorer can already view Office files (Configuration > Preview format > Office & Web files) employing IE. It's already perfect, the only drawback is it's noticably slower than Universal Viewer.
Just make it a bit faster then everthing would be fine.

Re: Office Preview
Not sure if this helps, but got 2 links from UV's website (top right portion that says For developers: Delphi / ActiveX components):admin wrote:1. Does Universal Viewer Free integrate with Internet Explorer? I.e. can you preview documents, e.g. XLS, within IE (via the so-called ActiveX technology)?
Delphi: http://atviewer.sourceforge.net/
ActiveX: http://www.uvviewsoft.com/cpp/view_ax.htm
Not sure which is useful to Don.

Re: Office Preview
Thanks, guys.
Yes, XY does preview Office, but there are some hickups that continue to generate support work (this one: http://www.xyplorer.com/faq-topic.php?id=office) for me and I want to stop this. The goal is that XY "just works", no support needed. The ultimate goal would be that it does not even a Help file -- not realistic but a good guideline for interface design.
No, I don't want any OCX. I just want to know something that "just works" in IE, so I can recommend it. And it looks like at least QVP is this.
Somebody here must use WordPerfect. Somebody here must be a lawyer! (Those are the only people that use WordPerfect AFAIK.)

Re: Office Preview
How about converting a DOC back to WPD? Found this old thread -- not sure if it still works but maybe an idea? http://www.wordbanter.com/showthread.php?t=48341admin wrote:Somebody here must use WordPerfect. Somebody here must be a lawyer! (Those are the only people that use WordPerfect AFAIK.)
Still spending WAY TOO much time here! But it's such a pleasure helping XY be a treasure!
(XP on laptop with touchpad and thus NO mouse!) Using latest beta vers when possible.

I found some here: http://www.gaprobate.org/forms_wp.php
Tests successful! XY can preview WordPerfect if QVP is installed.

Re: Office Preview
Would this mean that we would need QVP to preview files, or just a certain subset of files?

Re: Office Preview
Nothing really changed: XY can preview what Internet Explorer can preview. QVP can make Internet Explorer preview 300 file types.

Re: Office Preview
Good to know QVP can preview so many, so definitely worth to those willing to spend $49 on it.admin wrote:Nothing really changed: XY can preview what Internet Explorer can preview. QVP can make Internet Explorer preview 300 file types.
