Anyone using NirCmd?

Post by aurumdigitus »

Am thinking about adding NirCmd to system. Its simple and easy to understand syntax in an XY script would quickly add a multitude of new functions; everything from muting the sound to operating optical drive doors to saying phrases.

The reason for asking is there are those who vehemently maintain his software contains malevolent actions.

Advise from the good folks who read this forum would be highly valued!

I've been using some of NirSoft tools since I was on Win98 many years ago, I believe, and they are often mentioned on sites that I trust so I'd have NO concerns about it...

I'd almost think that those who believe it's bad just don't know what they are missing out on!
Still spending WAY TOO much time here! But it's such a pleasure helping XY be a treasure!
(XP on laptop with touchpad and thus NO mouse!) Using latest beta vers when possible.

I use NirCMD on daily basis, never seen any negative behaviour
I'm a casual coder using AHK language. All of my xys scripts:

I eat, sleep and breath NirCmd. :ugeek: ;)

Great little app, as all Nir Sofer's stuff is.
I want XY to serve soft ice cream. Please Don, make XY serve soft ice cream.

I have been using NirCmd for a couple of years and have had no trouble.
On the other hand about six months ago I downloaded the suite and everytime I ran it
I was told by my antivirus software of malicious threats I tried different antivirus samething.
NirCmd itself was never even flagged up.
I wondered if it was a false positive but I never needed to use the programs so flagged.

I wondered if it was a false...
It was. All NirSoft products are clean.

They are blocked by the behavioral/heuristic functions in your antivirus. Several of NirSofts programs can reveal sensitive information (e.g. your mail clients password), and these functions are having a hard time distinguishing between that, and a malicious piece of software, trying to do the same.
Kind regards
Regmos

And I think NirSoft even has a warning on their site about this issue because of the functions that some tools are intended for as Regmos says...

I LOOOVE NirSoft tools and do have NirCMD on all my computers at home. With NirCMD and a little XY scripting, I can claim that XYplorer can open CD/DVD drives, speak outloud, and a bunch of other things.

But yes, certain tools tends to be flaggged due to the purpose of the tools. So they're not actually viruses but the behaviors of these tools all tripped the heuristic engine of the AV software. There's nothing to worry about.

Thanks for all the votes of confidence in this product.

Once played with it becomes insidiously addictive. Soon used up too may CTB's. So poured all the code into one multi-script, assigned it to one TB button and now all the new tricks are working swimmingly. Jolly good fun (and useful in extremis).

I've been looking for a utility (utilities, actually) like this for many, many moons, just kept getting sidetracked.

Thanks, now I don't have to search around! I'll use NirCmd myself.

Have a look at WSCC (Portable)

On first run, it will offer to install all the Nirsoft/Sysinternal utilities. Close that window, add the ones you want to Favorites, right click => install, and you will have a nice little toolbox down by the watch.

All updates can be done through WSCC, and if you miss a utility, just search for it, add it to Favorites and install.
Kind regards

Yeah WSCC is great! One issue though is that certain tools does not seem to keep the version number or something because there are times you get the error where it can't tell what version the current one in the directory is. Other than that, it's a great tool.

I hate to admit it, but I sort'a gave up on keeping my Sysinternal utilities up to date. WSCC looks like the answer.

I knew there was a reason I wanted to come back to these forums after my long absence. Now, if only Don could somehow enable the forums so my spell checker worked (mobile, don't remember if desktop browser's spell check works or not here), I woodn't look like surch an id10T all the time!
