Expandable Image Formats for Image Viewer
I'm in need of thumbnail and image support for (HDR,EXR & PSD) files. It would be faster then using Adobe Bridge which is slow and a memory resource dinosaur.
Re: Expandable Image Formats for Image Viewer
I think you should install:
http://www.fastpictureviewer.com/codecs/
XYplorer should be able to display those image format afterwards.
Unfortunately, that's only for thumbnails and not for actual image support... What could be done though is to use PFA and use other apps that actual have support to open those formats like IrfanView (with the plugins pack).

Re: Expandable Image Formats for Image Viewer
If by "full image support" you mean the same usability as jpegs, then codecs are the (only) way to go as Enternal mentioned.
I use FastPictureViewer Codec Pack too, used SageThumbs before. It supports PSDs, so you can give it a try first, it's free.
Here, PSD are working great, in thumbnails as well as in Floating and Fullscreen Preview.
Don't have HDR'n Co to test, but FPV is supposed to preview them too.
In any case, the support of extra image formats -like videos- depends on codecs, so if the codecs support them, then XYplorer will too (AFAIK).
Hope this helps,
Flux

Re: Expandable Image Formats for Image Viewer
This is alot of extra junk, I have to install on my computer, for strictly thumbnail support, or having to view the images outside of XY, when I want to do everything within XY, arghhh.

Re: Expandable Image Formats for Image Viewer
Well, I'll try and be more clear:
• If you want XYplorer to be able to edit images like FastStone Viewer, XnView, then it won't, whatever the image format.
• If you want XYplorer to provide for PSDs, EXRs, etc. the same "full image support" that it does with jpegs, that is: Thumbnails, MouseDownBlowUp, Pane Preview, Floating Preview, FullScreen Preview, etc. then codecs are what you need.
Codecs for pics are no more "junk" than codecs for videos.
- If you were an average user, Windows support of jpeg, gif, etc. would be sufficient.
- But as soon as you start using dedicated image formats, be it RAWs, HighDefinitionRange or 3D related, then you can't expect them to just work out of the box.
Those formats are far too many, and updated far too often -e.g. especially camera RAWs- that only dedicated image editors or codecs can keep up with them!
So Windows will certainly never try nor be able to handle them itself, and XY isn't an image editor.
Same as you probably installed QuickTime and Flash (and presumably KLite or one of its brethren) even if you didn't want to, you'll need a codec pack for your pics!

Re: Expandable Image Formats for Image Viewer
Well, you could still try other alternatives mentioned here.
As for the "enabling" of anyone of those codec packs, there's nothing to do.
Once installed, they should just work.
I'll hypothesize though that you may have inadvertently stumbled upon a... "broken" version of FPV...
So, as I mentioned in the other post, if SageThumbs covers your needs, then it's worth staying with it, since it's free.
But if you really have specific needs that aren't covered by any of the free codecs, then maybe hope for a better discount (if I remember correctly, I had it for ~9.9x$ for a Christmas/NewYear sale or something...).
Anyway, as I said, there's usually not tweaking needed (i.e. mandatory) for any codec pack. They all should just work "as is", tweaking being optional.
In the case of FPV, you shouldn't even need to open its (minimal) control panel.

Re: Expandable Image Formats for Image Viewer
I tried Mystic Thumbs, it is actually pretty good. There remains a few file formats, I have to find if it accepts, if not, I'll have to use FPV. Thanks
The issue is with MDBU in XY, some PSD files for example, display full screen, others don't ?
Solved the issue. Found my solution. Mystic Thumbs, nice program !

Re: Expandable Image Formats for Image Viewer
Glad to hear you found something that worked for you!
Never had a problem with PSD previews here, maybe it was an old preview still in the cache...
