No, selected is not enough. (Lasso-select a file and try F11: nothing).

Ah, OK. But then the message in the statusbar is 'No file selected'.

Yes, I saw that too. It's inconsistent but I have no idea for a better message. "No current file"??? That would be even more confusing.

In general, the different states a particular file or item(s) can be in can be a bit confusing with regards to what action will be taken.

Selected, Lasso Selected (single item), Lasso Selected (multiple items), Current, Focused, etc.

Is there a reason a single lasso-selected file is not treated the same way as a single file selected by a click (and therefore 'current'?) ?

Yes, there is a reason. One single reason:

Click-selecting a file (making it "current") will load the file into the Info Panel: Which means it will get previewed, and e.g. an image will get loaded or a video file will get run. This should not happen when lasso-selecting a file (where the selected state can quickly switch on and off).

I think it makes sense (and works like this for over 10 years) but it is hard to "sell" because there is no good wording for it. Selected, Focused, Selected+Focused, Current: they are all different concepts/states of a file.
