Runtime Error 10

When doubleclicking on any folder (w/ "children") in the left pane Tracker throws up an error message: "Run-time error '10': This array is fixed or temporarily locked" and after dialog block is dismissed Tracker closes.

I'm using 3.60.0063. Was also true in 3.60.0045. (sorry don't remember the first ver where I first noticed this.)

W2k+SP4
640MB RAM
IE6.0+SP1
Intellipoint 4.12

Ok, I did some more checking:

I fired up my Compaq laptop (W2k+SP2). The touchpad on this laptop uses Synaptics software - ver 7.2.5.06. The laptop had Tracker ver 3.50.0005. It opened folders & drives on a doubleclick (or double tap actually) just fine. But I'm not able to scroll using the touchpad "scrollzones" in Tracker. I updated Tracker to the current ver - 3.60.0063 and it acted the same as the earlier version.

Then I booted the (dual boot) desktop machine into W98SE. W98SE is using Intellipoint ver 4.0 (for my M$ trackball) and Tracker ver 3.60.0063. When I doubleclicked on *any* folder or drive that has "child" folders *and* was not previously selected then Tracker starts tiling dialog blocks across the screen (and off the edge - I just keeps pumping them out!) that says: "Runtime Error 97: Can not call friend function on object when it's not an instance of a defining class." So if I select a drive or folder first and *then* doubleclick on it it works fine. If I doubleclick on an unselected folder which has no folders underneath it there's no problem. But if I doubleclick on a unselected drive or folder that has folders underneath it I get the parade of error messages and I have to go into task mgr and pull Tracker's plug.

Next I tried unloading "point32.exe" which is the Intellipoint driver. Now I had *no* problem w/ Tracker at all. I could (manually) doubleclick all day long and tracker did what it's supposed to.

Next I rebooted back to W2K+SP4 which uses Intellipoint ver 4.12. The behavior is exactly the same as w/ W98 except for the error message. (see first post) If I unload the Intellipoint driver the problem goes away.

So it appears that Tracker has a conflict w/ Intellipoint 4.0 and 4.12. And on my laptop I lose the Synaptics features in Tracker.

On my system (XP SP1) I have point32.exe ver 4.00.0657.1, without any of the problems you report.

What happens if you single-click on the plus-symbol of a previously unselected folder with childs?

Are you showing folder sizes in the file list?

It works normally. Only doubleclicking causes a problem.

New Info:

I have a 5 buton Explorer Trackball (which I love in spite of the crappy software) When I say "doubleclick" what I mean is that i'm pressing button #3 which I have cobfigured to act as "doubleclick". I just tried a *manual* (button #1) doubleclick in Tracker and it worked fine. So the problem *only* happens when Intellipoint generates it's own doubleclick from my single press of button #3.

Does that help?

That should have been your first sentence! Would have spared me a morning of DoubleClicks.
Anyway, now I can shift the blame to the Intellipoint software which is either buggy or malconfigured.
I still applied some changes to the code directed to catch the kind of errors you reported. Shots into the dark more or less, but I'm curious to hear from you after trying the next BETA.

I've got a Logitech cordless mouse and I've just configured the middle button to perform the double click action (I normally have it set to Esc). It works perfectly. This would point to an Intellipoint software problem.

Perhaps. But as i'm sure you're painfully aware most of us pesky users use have hdwr / software configurations on our computers that are different from yours. I've been using this trackball for 3 or 4 yrs now. I don't think about doubleclicking - that's my middle fingers job. And in all the time that i've used it, in literally hundreds of applications, i've *never* had a situation before where doubleclicking didn't work normally w/ Intellipoint.

I'm sure that you're technically correct. I have no trouble believing that Tracker is correctly following the M$ rules and that Intellipoint is buggy. But there's a heck of a lot more Intellipoint software out there that there are Tracker installations. The ugly reality for independent software developers like yourself is that if they want their software to appear to work "correctly" w/ M$ software than they've got to work around the M$ bugs. Because M$ sure isn't going to fix them!

Will the next BETA be on the normal Tracker D/L page or will I need to monitor the forum for a location?

I just uploaded version 3.60.0083 (same download link as before), in which I did something concerning the error 10 dblclick bug. Please try this version.

Ok, I installed 3.60.0082 and unfortunately it didn't change the behavoir.

Then I installed 3.60.0083 (which ID's itself as 3.60.0082) and that didn't change anything either. But i'm glad to keep trying so i'll check the BETA forum frequently.

Well i've looked at that forum several times and was puzzled because the newest post was 12 Jul 2004. Finally I noticed the "Next" at the bottom and got to the right page.

So wouldn't it be better and more intuitive to have the newest posts first instead of the oldest?

If it ID's itself as 3.60.0082, you got the wrong one. Try again.

Ok, I deleted both copies of TrackerV3_3.60_Install.zip that i had and D/L it again froom http://www.trackerv3.com/download/Track ... nstall.zip. It still ID's itself as 3.60.0082. It's 1,097,728 bytes. And it behaves as before.

I just DLed and installed it myself from the web. It's 3.60.0083. Maybe you should reset your cache?

I did. I also closed Opera 7.52 and then restarted it and then visually verified that the cache folder was empty. I then redownloaded http://www.trackerv3.com/download/Track ... nstall.zip It was the 0082 ver. I did this 2 or 3 times.

Then I fired up the (dreaded) IE6 and downloaded the file. It's still 0082. Cache doesn't seem to be the problem.

Your server clearly hates me.
