Sounds like dualpane to me. Even worse, dualpane + tree. My monitor says "no".

Dual pane in its full implementation would require dual trees, one for each pane...I was suggesting only one tree but dual tabs...maybe it's because I've been using a variant of dual pane for about 20+- years (including on mainframe) that I find it so necessary? To me, it could be somewhat equated with having a choice of seeing tree or list but not both...and that would be pretty much unworkable, right?

Now I'd agree that having dual tabs/panes is not needed, maybe, 95% or more of the time, but in that remaining 5% or so, it's absolutely crucial to accomplish task in a timely manner.

[admin]: If you go freeware you easily get millions of fanatic users for a heap of bullshit pasted together in half a week. But if you dare to take money for your work (and it is very hard work), you get hate reviews, cracking, etc.

That's true to my experience, too. This happened last week with FastStone Image Viewer, a decent freeware program, but once the author took it shareware, he disabled his website because he knew he would get flooded with complaints. (As of today, a week later, his website is still down.) Meanwhile, loyal Faststone users who trumpeted the software for years are now ignorantly trashing it.

I got nothing against freeware, but I'm all for the small developer being able to make a living off his work, rather than spending a lifetime of personal money (on dev tools, hosting costs, etc.) on perpertual freeware. As Don notes, if you're building a program in a day or a week and tossing it out there with no intent on maintaining it, then freeware should be equal to your expectations of it; that is, nothing.

And one last thing. We all agree that when compared to other top file managers, XYplorer's Lifetime license is in itself generous, given the developer's commitment to this software. That's why, whether I ever buy another license or not, I'm happy to donate to XYplorer's continued development. I hope you will, too, no matter how small or large the amount.

Looks like FastStone Image Viewer's Freeware again... looks excellent btw, and portable too, so I'll give it a go!
