Read only Panel

Post by curvenut »

Hi,

Is there such a feature to set a panel to be Read only Panel in order to avoid any wrong manipulation on any files ?
I have to browse on Connected drives on the network and when I delete files, it delete permanently. Thats why I want to browse
in readonly mode to avoid accidental manipulation.

Thanks for Help !

Nope, but the closest thing that may help you is the section
Configuration > Menus, Mouse, Safety > Safety Belts

I thought the same. For those who can't/don't want to use NTFS ACL, "frozen tabs" would be a great safety belt.
PS: would admin.ini be a solution? Never used myself, that's why I ask.

admin.ini can be used to block certain locations, but not a pane.

I currently have no time for "Read-Only Pane" but I think it's cool and should be done. A question is how this read-only mode should be shown in the UI.

I still think the OP might be referring to tabs rather than full panes.
Anyway, a cool effect would be the one which is applied to tree when in multi branch view. And (maybe) shading the tab name accordingly.

Or some sort of overlay on the tab icon

I'm thinking of a simple script that set parent folder as readonly (then, color filter will tell read-only status)
I'm a casual coder using AHK language. All of my xys scripts:

Read-only is a weak safety measure. You should play with ACLs for higher efficiency.
