Hi All,
I am a registered user of XYplorer, and absolutely LOVE the program (could NOT live without it, at this point!) :-)
Problem is I still have an older, Windows XP (with all latest service packs and updates installed) and just recently my XYplorer program has been delayed (slow to start up) after I click the program icon. :-(
Not sure that I have really changed anything significantly in my system setup or programs- but what will end up happening is I click the program icon to start the program, and nothing happens, so I then click it one or sometimes two additional times and then after a (what seems like long!) delay, two or three instances of the program will finally appear on the screen (1 instance for every time I clicked the program icon).
If anyone has any suggestions for troubleshooting or what else I might try differently, I would greatly appreciate any help of suggestions. :-)
(BTW, I do plan on getting new computer, with Windows 7 or 8 sometime in the near future, but until then, was hoping I could find something helpful to try to "hold me over".)
Thanks so much for any help or suggestions!
Best Wishes,
Brian

Re: Need Help- Delayed (Slow) Start for XYplorer in Windows
Hi and welcome,
how long have you observed this? Did you reboot Windows in the meantime? (This often helps.)
From my POV there is nothing that could have caused this. To the contrary, I'm almost constantly working on speed improvements. It's my fetish.

Re: Need Help- Delayed (Slow) Start for XYplorer in Windows
Hi Don,
Thanks for your reply. :-)
I noticed it started about a month ago- unfortunately, I'm not sure exactly what I might have installed or changed in my system to make the program behave this way. But it is a consistent problem- happens every time I start the program, even after a fresh reboot. :-(
Are there any lists of common "troubleshooting" things one can try when this happens? Or (God forbid, because I would really feel bad!) am I the only one out of all the XYplorer users who has ever experienced this problem?
I really do love the program, and use it all the time- which is what makes the problem so frustrating for me.
Also- once the program (or multiple instances of the programs [from my having clicked the program icon more than once]) do finally appear, I can use the program with good speed, accuracy and no errors or crashing problems. It's just the super slooooooooooooow start-up that continues to be the problem.
If nothing else does help (in the way of "troubleshooting" or possible even a re-install) I do hope that when I upgrade to a faster, Windows 7 or 8 system this will cease to be an issue on the new machine.
Thanks again!
Best Wishes,
Brian

Maybe start here:cfguy100 wrote: Are there any lists of common "troubleshooting" things one can try when this happens?
Hold control key and click on Help | Various Information
BTW, I have XY on some very old PCs running XP and it works as it should.

This sounds like network.super slooooooooooooow start-up
- Do you have unavailable network folders in mini tree, tabs, catalog?
- Are you using the latest version of XY (some related issues have been improved here recently)
Tick all three:
Configuration | Refresh, Icons, History | Icons | Use generic icons for super-fast browsing
Configuration | Refresh, Icons, History | Icons | But only in network locations
Configuration | Refresh, Icons, History | Icons | Apply to all controls
And this;
Configuration | Controls and More | Miscellaneous | Allow zombies in the Mini Tree
