Icons for Shortcuts to Network Programs
Icons for Shortcuts to Network Programs
At school, I have shortcuts on my desktop that points to applications that are on network locations. XYplorer does not display these icons at all even when all "Generic Icons" options are disabled in the <xyini>.
For example, I have two application on my desktop which are Firefox and Matlab. These two shortcuts points to:
\\cecs\resources\Mozilla\firefox\firefox.exe
\\Cecs\resources\Programs\Programs\Matlab8\bin\matlab.exe
On Q-DIR, it shows up correctly as: In XYplorer:

Yes, this has been done on purpose:
Code: Select all
v9.90.0801 - 2011-04-16 12:55
% Network browsing: Before, you would get long delays when browsing
a folder with LNK files pointing to unavailable network locations,
as well as when selecting such a file. These delays should be gone
now.

But it's such an odd issue that XYplorer would slow down like that since Q-DIR and quite a few others never had an issue with slowing down when selecting lnk files that points to executables on network drives. Is it due to some capabilities of the VB6 runtime or something?admin wrote:No, we have enough of them. Unless you find a crowd of supporters...
But yes, could you not reconsider it? Network drives can be a huge part of file management and trying to differentiate what programs to execute with generic icons is a bit... odd.

Yes!! It looks great! All the icons now show up! Also as far as I'm concerned, I have not experienced any slowdowns.
Thank you! Let see how the others find it as well.

Re: Icons for Shortcuts to Network Programs
I've also noticed what I consider a discrepency with icon overlays. Hardlink icon overlays do not show up when you have hardlinks in a folder. The icons show up as a regular files that actually exists in the folder without the icon overlays. I've noticed that folder juntions show up properly with XYplorer version 12.40.0300. I can't recall if they show correctly in the previous version I was using. Along with the "redirection" issue with System32 folders, the lack of hardlink overlays on the icons makes it impossible for me to work on projects such as evaluating Windows Magement Instumentation in "Windows\System32\WBEM which is the default folder for WinMgmt.exe.
I figured I would have a 64 bit version of XYplorer installed that would work through the redirection issue, but the issue still exists with version 12.40.0300. This new version takes me to Windows\SysWOW64\WBEM when I select the Windows\System32\WBEM folder from the XYplorer folder tree. It shows 159 files rather than the 290 actually in the Windows\System32\WBEM folder. Both WBEM folders are populated with hardlinks with virtually no actual files, but XYplorer doesn't tell the user that these are hardlinks and not files.
I'm a licensed user of XYplorer, but these issues prevent me from working with XYplorer when I work on Windows Management Instrumentation and other Windows issues.
