Cut [1]!

Hey, I wanted to ask this since years: when I drag images from the IE browser into XYplorer, their filename is altered to "OriginalBasename[1].ext". This is because the file is actually copied from the Internet Cache "... Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5 ..." where it is stored under this altered name. (With FireFox the problem does not exist.)

My opinion: this sucks.
My question: would anybody mind of I just cut this "[1]" out of the name and save the file under its real true correct original name??

And, BTW, instead of showing the frustrating overwrite-or-cancel dialog on name collision, wouldn't it be nice to give the file a unique name before the collision happens. Yep, now it's me appending numbers to filenames...

No, cutting out the [1] sounds good to me, but then I don't use IE so it won't bother me!

Not too sure about that since I may want to replace the file with one of the same name. Ask if the replacement should be made or a rename, I think might be better.

My $.02 is:

1) Yes, remove the [1] as it's something I have to do whenever I do a "View Source" in IE and then save to a TXT file, and it's irritating! I've noticed that on some rare occasions, the filename has a [2], [3], etc. and not sure under what conditions that occurs....I see these other numbers quite often in my IE temp folder, BTW.

2) As Gandolf said, there are times when one wants to update/overlay existing file...so auto-append with no user input would make that harder to do...would it be possible to trap the overwrite condition and then offer to replace or append suffix? Or use a default appended name with a msg box to allow user to change it?

1) Cutting the [1] from IE sounds good to me as I ahve to use IE at work

2) What JC said. Seems like you need a dialog box with "Overwrite | Increment Filename | Cancel". Or perhaps, in the options, a tick box optioning auto incrementation of filenames.

Sorry, folks, but now I think it was not such a good idea. "Too smart" if you know what I mean.
I'm sure there's a RegExp that can quickly remove all "[1]" from the names. Well, I could even add that service to the Rename Special list.
