I use an external renamer--don't mind having different apps for different tasks. The one I use, Oscar's Renamer, essentially opens the folder/file listing in a plain text edit area allowing for super easy modification of names. Basically like the list editor in Xy -- I wouldn't mind a "list editor" for the current directory contents in xy. But that might be a silly idea that only I would use :)

I couldn't agree more! Although XY is becoming an app that I have running almost all the time, I still use other products when they are more applicable to the required task...and when it comes to renaming, which I mostly do to BMP/JPG files, I use IrfanView as I'm typically resizing at the same time...

I also use http://www.kellysoftware.com/software/Rename4u.asp for other batch renames...It's maybe not at good as the ones that zridling mentioned, but I've used it for a few years and has served my needs.
Still spending WAY TOO much time here! But it's such a pleasure helping XY be a treasure!

I've created a new thread to discuss the renaming thang. I've cluttered up this thread enough...

-> moved

. add columns for music properties (author, album title, year ...)

. select the pointed tab after a certain amount of time. (like Firefox)

. a drag and drop on a folder would open a new tab

. a close button on selected tabs

( With FF, there is many good ideas on tab management. )

So you are abusing the wish poll for your little exotic special wishlings!

These are the questions to be answered:
(1) What single feature do you miss most in XYplorer?
(2) What single feature do you think others miss most in XYplorer?

At the moment, the single feature I believe that I miss most is one that I wrote about way back in Jan, (and which was never replied to :( ), when I first started using XY...and it's still true:
http://www.xyplorer.com/xyfc/viewtopic.php?t=519

That, and maybe the lack of a really quick way to specify just a drive to search, would be my current answer.

Would Like to See Move Mean MOVE

Post by gbjennings »

Unless I am missing the obvious, XYplorer simply copies files from one folder to another as opposed to CUT which of course is a copy and delete. I have searched high and low to see if I missed an obvious setting somewhere, but to no avail. Why doesn't CUT mean exactly that ? We already have a 'Copy.' Thanks for listening.

Thats very strange. what version are you using?? CUT was always there since XY was conceived. I am using 5.20.0054 right now and CUT (copy to destination and delete from source) works fine for me. try reinstalling and see if you see the same thing.

Cut and Paste

Post by gbjennings »

I'm using V5.20.0026. If I 'cut' a file from one folder and 'paste' in into another, it remains in the original folder as well as in the new folder. Same as a copy and paste. I have tried the same function on both Windows Explorer and freeCommander, and they both work as they should - CUT and paste. Any other suggestions ? Could XY be using any files that windows explorer is not using for cut and paste ?

Hm. Works all as expected here. How do you cut, Ctrl+X?

How I Cut

Post by gbjennings »

I normally cut either with the Cut in the Context Menu or with the Cut in the tool bar. If I Cut and 'Paste Special - Paste (Move)' it works fine. Shouldn't the normal 'Paste' also include deleting the source file ? Using Ctrl-X has the same effect - e.g. copy instead of move.

What's your OS, please?

And: in menu Edit|Paste Special|Edit clipboard... you can see in the title box whether the clipboard is marked for copy or for move. So when you cut it's always marked for copy???

Marked to Copy

Post by gbjennings »

I'm running Win98SE on an older laptop. When I highlight a file and 'Cut', then go to Edit/Paste Special/Edit Clipboard - it reads 'Files on Clipboard (Marked to Copy).
