Edit Item Names - Check box for toggling column mode
Edit Item Names - Check box for toggling column mode
I would really like to see a check box option to toggle column mode while in Edit Item Names. Based on my experience with UltraEdit Column Mode. Make sure you can paste properly. If I set the cursor position down 5 columns simultaneously, I would like it to paste 5 times. UltraEdit Column Mode will only paste one time, even if the cursor position is simultaneously down a few columns.

Re: Edit Item Names - Check box for toggling column mode
Hello and welcome,
this is overkill for a lean file manager like XY, but you can copy/paste your block to UE, then do the column magic there, and then copy/paste back to XY.

Re: Edit Item Names - Check box for toggling column mode
Does XYplorer has a column mode at all ? otherwise even if he did the magic in ultraedit (btw you can't paste to multiple lines but you can type that way) he would have to do it one by one.
Personally I'd try one of the renaming methods available, or if I'm feeling too lazy when the situation is complex I'd use ultraedit to fabricate a batch file to do it one by one.

Re: Edit Item Names - Check box for toggling column mode
I would like to give my volt for the option of "Column mode" editing, as in Notepad++.
I can't see that vertical section is an overkill, no more than your additions for picture manipulations are.

Re: Edit Item Names - Check box for toggling column mode
I would also find this very helpful, but understand that it is not achievable with the edit control currently used. (I believe that this wish was brought up already some time ago, but am not sure.)
However, would perhaps the following addition be possible (I need this few times a week), via the following check box under the editing area: "Use original extensions"?
If checked, then:
1. Show file names in the edit control without extensions (and let them be edited the usual way)
2. On check/final confirmation append the original extensions.
If unchecked:
Everything as already now.

From the 'Why the $*?! didn't somebody think of this before?' department.
Text Editor Anywhere
(from the makers of Listary)
http://www.listary.com/text-editor-anywhere
With TEA running in the background (it's portable).
And XYplorer "Edit Item Names" (EIN) dialog open.
Hit the TEA hotkey.
Your chosen text editor opens with text from the EIN box in place.
Use column mode (e.g. Alt+Mouse Selection in Notepad++) or any other feature to your heart's content.
Close the text editor clicking Yes to save your changes.
Changes are saved to a temporary text file in the TEA.
The amended text is automatically placed into XYplorer's EIN box.
Great for web based text input.
Oh, and did I mention it's free.
