Even though I'd maybe not use them often, I agree with the three items/changes as listed in Don's prior post...as Select for a file doesn't imply, to me, doing anything with it as does Open....and Open for a executable implies just what exactly, thus Run is more accurate, to me, if the program will be started.
Still spending WAY TOO much time here! But it's such a pleasure helping XY be a treasure!
(XP on laptop with touchpad and thus NO mouse!) Using latest beta vers when possible.

admin wrote:(1) Currently "open" on a folder will actually go to/select the folder. A bit confusing maybe, but in the tree node ctx menu it's also called "open (in new tab etc.)". So I would leave it at "open" for folders.
Not sure why you think it might be a bit confusing, seems all very logicial/"normal" to me... aka Agreed.
admin wrote:(2) Currently "open" on a non-folder (and non file:///) will go to the item's folder in tree and select the item in the list. This functionality could be renamed to "Select" (Select in New Tab, Select in New Background Tab).
Agreed.
admin wrote:(3) On top of that I could add a new item "Open" or "Run" for executables which would open but not select the item; this would be a real start menu functionality.
I think "Open" makes more sense here, basically because that's how it's called everywhere else (ie. context menu, Enter=Open Selected Item(s), etc)
"Open" an EXE == start/run it
"Open" a XXX file == open it in whatever XXX is associated with
This is exactly what the file:/// feature (or this new menu) does, so let's call it "Open" I say!

So basically, it's "Open" on file item that was weird, as it would "Select" them; but for folders & file:/// items it's all good as it is now.
Yes, "Open" means two different actions depending if its on a folder or file, but that's how it always worked, as in "Open" on a folder would open it with whatever is associated with folders, aka your file manager (XY). Hence why it changes the tab's location, etc. So it's all good I'd say.

I havent followed completely the things said before, but still my thoughts are:

"Open"-
- "for folder" means to open the folder in order to display the contents in it.
- "for file" means to execute that file in whatever way depending upon the filetype.

I suggest something like "Go to" or something similar.

"Go to"-
- "for folder" means to simply go to that folder in the list and select it (not open it).
- "for file" same as folder.

Good, he said the same thing as I did basically so we all agree ;)
Only I used "Select" but "Go to" might be even better. But I do not think it can be done for folders though, can it? (like going to its parent and having it selected on the List only?? Cause even having a folder on Fav Files now just opens the folder aswell.... not that it's really important though ;))

noutters wrote:I would like to see it for the same reason you introduced the list management interface. Lists are easier to manage in an editor and not by pointing and clicking stuff in a GUI.

Examples:
 I could use a text editor to manage my catalog and massively use data collected with the search feature of XYplorer.
 I could delete all pathways and file types in the catalog in one operation, if i want to. No more picking + right-click + rename + renaming + OK per line
 I could build very fast my own alterenative file/dir trees. Isn't it cool? 8)
A "raw" mode way of editing the catalog would be very nice to add...
Is this in the wait list?
