Learning English

Post by admin »

Since we have "Select Language..." in the menu, should "Load language after download" better be called "After downloading select this language"???

Please, English mothertonguers, speak up!

I don't see any problems with "LLAD" since it's clear and shorter as well...
Still spending WAY TOO much time here! But it's such a pleasure helping XY be a treasure!
(XP on laptop with touchpad and thus NO mouse!) Using latest beta vers when possible.

The issue is not space but clarity. I don't like that we call the same thing "Select" in one place, and "Load" in another place.

Then you should change "Select Language..." into "Load [another] Language...". In fact you are not just "selecting" a language, you're telling XY to load it into memory and applying it to the interface.

Not that I'll be using those menu items, but honestly, I think you're fine just the way it is. In one case, you are "selecting" a language, and in the other you are really asking the user if he/she wants to "load" the language file after downloading it. The user already "selected" the language to download.

Looking at what Windows does for its own configuration, “Choose a display language” and “Current language for non-Unicode programs:”
“Installing” makes them available so they may be “chosen” when desired.

Can not tell if this was meant to be humorous or not but in the colloquial North American dialect mothertonguers comes perilously close to a nasty and virulent epithet.

Your faithful pendant and curmudgeon ...
