Minor scroll wheel issue

Did you check your disk recently? What you are reporting sounds like a file system or hard disk error...

(This situation only happens with XY with Show Folder size on, nowhere else.)

Okay, I have a strong theory now about what's going on.

- You have Show Folder Sizes ON
- You have Auto-Refresh ON
- You are browsing a location with constant or regular activity

Now, since a few builds (since 20060923), I deep-watch (i.e. including subfolders) the current location *IF* Show Folder Sizes is ON! Reason: update the sizes if anything changes down there in some subfolder.
Maybe, this was not such a good idea... comments please!

Independent of this, I just changed the order of processes: Folder sizes are now calculated après browse! Much cooler... you'll see...

I've not had the problem, as I rarely have the Folder Size option on, but...here's a thought: Allow user to select how often the "deep-watch" occurs, in terms of, maybe, 0-20 seconds in .5 intervals, where 0=as now? So if I wanted more frequent refresh and thus more overhead, I could choose that...or...if I'm a slow motion user, less often.
A number of system activity monitors have that type of option...and I don't recall any such now in XY...

Yes, that's a good option.

Just to make sure: the "deep-watch" is not "occurring" in the sense of a time-consuming process. It's the refresh (= rebrowse) after a change is observed that's using CPU and time.
So the refresh frequency should be somehow controlled.

When I have auto-refresh on, and folder sizes on, and I'm have "C:\" in a tab and nothing that I'm aware of going on that would add/delete/modify files or their sizes, the display refreshes about every 3 seconds now...and thus while doing so, the list gets reordered in a flashing manner, but the result total is almost always the same nbr of bytes...it's this activity that, by having a user defined interval, could be reduced so one would be able to read the numbers without having them constantly moving around!

I'm not sure what triggers this refresh...but having it occur this often can be visually distracting as sometimes one is just looking at data and deciding what to do next...

Now having the size/space update while I'm doing a download can be handy, but in that case, I'm generally IN that specific folder so it's only that file that is flashing, which is fine and not bothersome...

So...maybe...could we have an option to say that auto-refresh for sizes should only apply to those files currently in list? That is, to not look within folders, unless specifically requested by F5 operations...just an idea.

Hi Don;

You hit the nail on the head. But first:

1. While in my downloads folder with a file being downloaded, each time it is updated (once per second looks like) the statusbar flashes rather badly. (Between Total | Drive info and =>Getting folder sizes (I think that what it says))

2. In my WinUtils folder where the problem is very bad with the listview flashing up and down while trying to scoll down or up with the mousewheel, the problem is indeed caused by a program that is constantly updating a log file. (My UPS software writing to its log file.)

So, now you know what it is, how to fix?
