Paste and Go

Post by surrender »

Small wish:

Can we have something like in firefox and opera where one can simultaneously paste and enter (Go) something in the address bar with one click? Ofcourse a keyboard shortcut would be my choice. I would find this handy in find files too.

What now, a click or a keyboard shortcut?

I'm not sure I get you. Like "Go to location currently on the clipboard (after pasting it to the address bar)"???

Ok. I rephrase it.

Right now we have a shortcut ctrl+v to paste something in the address bar or anywhere in the find files tab. But then i have to always hit enter for something to happen (in case of addressbar it goes to the path i pasted). I was simply suggesting a shortcut to do paste and enter in one go.

In short:

Now: ctrl+v and hit enter = destination
Wish: ctrl+? = destination

ctrl+? where (in address bar??) and what shall happen? "destination" is not a useful description.
And which shortcut would you recommend to waste for this?

Oh gosh sorry.

Ok lets say i copied a path from another application
eg. C:\Program Files\Opera\profile\opera6.ini

Now i want to go that folder from my address bar.

I click address bar and do ctrl+y (suggestion for new shortcut) instead of ctrl+v and press enter.

In this case it should go to the path C:\Program Files\Opera\profile\opera6.ini

I've seen firefox and opera both having this feature. In case of XY you can also adopt this for find files' name, location field etc. And in this case it should find files without hitting enter.

So ctrl+y is "ctrl+v" and "enter" combined.

Simply, i save time by ctrl+y because very often i hit enter anyway after pasting something.

Well, that's what I meant by "Go to location currently on the clipboard (after pasting it to the address bar)". :)
But no, sorry, too weird, too non-Windows.

By the way, to lighten you up a bit: I plan to add the ability to run shell commands directly via the address bar resp. catalog (probably prefixed by "!").

Admin,

I would like to reignite this request.

Sometimes I copy folder path's from Windows explorer and paste them in the address field of XYplorer, however it would be most time efficient to "Paste & Go" - meaning it will after pasting the address it then auto-enters it (like pressing ENTER key on the keyboard, but automatic).

Chrome browser, latest Firefox (v17.01) and Opera browser all have this feature.

Please add a menu entry for it in a next/future XY version :)

I would love to use it regularly in XYplorer.

It's closely related to this topic I started: http://www.xyplorer.com/xyfc/viewtopic. ... 295#p80295

Hm, I don't know why I did not get it in 2006, but I now I see the coolness of it. I'll add it, thanks for kicking me. :)

AutoHotKey is always an all-round solution for similar purposes. I use it from ages.
It would be super-easy to do this with a hotkey by choice. Performing paste and hit Enter, with one hotkey.
There always will be weird wishes about new features and functions :) .
For example, I use system-wide Ctrl+(mouse)Back/Forward combination to switch between tabs, in browsers, XY and everywhere there is a tabbar. Very useful.
I'm sure Don won't be interested in implementing this, moreover this way now, it's consistent throughout all applications.

 It could be that Haddy was better at explaining this feature to you than me (my old name was Surrender). Kudos to him :appl:

@Don: In the screenshot above, the items below "Select All" in the popup menu (like Right to left reading order and so on) look unnecessary (sorry if they are not).
Does anyone use them ever? Just curious.

I don't think I can modify this context menu. Well, I might find out how to do this, but my plan is different anyway: I would simply add a new command to menu Go: Go to location in clipboard. Advantage: You could then have a keyboard shortcut for it.
