Multilingual Support
Re: Multilingual Support
I wasn't afraid about getting lost in my own XY setup.
But how are we gonna respond to user's questions about any setting without eliminating first the possibility he/she has messed with the lng file?
And will every user have to revert XY's language first to English, before posting in the forums?
That's what I'm a bit concerned about, but we'll see...

Re: Multilingual Support
Small bug on ITT: either "ENTER" or "CTRL+ENTER" cease to respond after using the "suggestions based..." feature.
Another small bug: after closing ITT, a grayed area stays on panel as if the "preview pane" were opened.

Yes, we'll see. I think only very few people will use this tool.RalphM wrote:I wasn't afraid about getting lost in my own XY setup.

Buggy translations are a universal problem ever since there is (more than one) language. Not my fault.

Re: Multilingual Support
i wonder if Russian would be the only language where buttons are too small for words? i played ITT a bit and it's real easy and fun, but as i proceed i often have situations where Russian equivalents are 1-2 letters "too much for a button". the easiest proposition is to search for another term, but it's not always possible..
any ideas? maybe somewhat adjustable buttons?..
add: yet, am i the only one having problem with saving .lng and error about MLS version 0 ? used last beta clean and last reference.zip.

I expected this but have no solution.eil wrote:i wonder if Russian would be the only language where buttons are too small for words? i played ITT a bit and it's real easy and fun, but as i proceed i often have situations where Russian equivalents are 1-2 letters "too much for a button". the easiest proposition is to search for another term, but it's not always possible..

Bad example (invented by Don
Or replaces English by some Japanese slang.
Or whatever.
So I think there should at least be the ability to switch dynamically between translations and the original XY-supplied texts. So that everybady at least is able to supply his problem with messages that can't be misunderstood by people wanting to help.
(But maybe this is possible already? Don't know

I had actually tried this but gave up at some point. I might try again later.PeterH wrote:So I think there should at least be the ability to switch dynamically between translations and the original XY-supplied texts. Re: Multilingual Support
How Ctrl+Enter is handled is standard and done like this everywhere else in XY.SkyFrontier wrote:Man, the Interface Translation Tool (ITT) is *almost* like a dream...
Thanks, thanks, thanks!
Only complaint (apart lack of some suggested features): ENTER should be the default key *even* in the multi-line. Ctrl+Enter should apply for standard 'enter' as it will probably never be used and totally breaks the workflow as it currently again.
...did I said 'thanks' already? No? Oh, thanks!
-is there a way for you to forcibly keep the caret in the edit box *unless* it is required on the Live Filter Box?
-...double click select *all* text in the box?
-...select all text in the box by default on each 'enter'?
Just to be clear: this is meant to be applied after clicking on each item at the 'items to translate' column...
Your other wishes are not possible.
Sorry

Can you estimate how many extra-pixels width you would need?

can't say for the moment, 'cause didn't "play" too much. for the moment, it's a lack of place for 1-2 letters.admin wrote:Can you estimate how many extra-pixels width you would need?
lets wait for maybe some other translators get in same situation. besides, DmFedorov is main on Russian translation, as we talked with him, so should wait for his opinion.

Re: Multilingual Support
Is it possible that ITT could monitor "edit translation" box and warn user when the translated length exceeds original's, telling how many chars are off limits...? "Original" and "Translation" previews are a valuable measure tool, but a visual hint on the nearby of "edit translation" box telling that info will certainly provide a safe net to play with, enhancing workflow speed.eil wrote:can't say for the moment, 'cause didn't "play" too much. for the moment, it's a lack of place for 1-2 letters.admin wrote:Can you estimate how many extra-pixels width you would need?

Re: Multilingual Support
Not possible, or too complex. E.g. I only know the button width in pixels, but the allowed caption width within the button is dependent on the OS and the visual theme.SkyFrontier wrote:Is it possible that ITT could monitor "edit translation" box and warn user when the translated length exceeds original's, telling how many chars are off limits...? I could warn when the translation is longer than the original, but that does not necessarily mean that it is too long for the control.

Re: Multilingual Support
PTBR will certainly produce longish sentences but with such monitoring I can shorten some with no prejudice to users' understanding.
Please do so, then.

Re: Multilingual Support
We are coming closer. I now believe that almost 100% of all strings are ready for translation (thanks to the restless Dmitry
!).
I had an idea: On the web page where I place the various LNG files for download along with the names of the translators, I could place a Donate button for each translator (the translator can provide the link, e.g. to her paypal account). Actually I could add a field for the donation link to the header section of the LNG file. Anybody interested?
