Re: Multilingual Support
OK: ASCII is 7 bit.
But isn't there a name for the extended (relative to ASCII) 8 bit code?
The only term I found was SBCS - this includes explicit differentiation from DBCS and MBCS, so this term might be correct here?

Re: Multilingual Support
I assume that the keys "F1" to "F12" are not translated in any language?

Re: Multilingual Support
Do you mean the shortcuts exactly as written? Then, no.admin wrote:I assume that the keys "F1" to "F12" are not translated in any language?
I ask, because the term "Funktionstasten" I did read and hear once in a while, but I guess that's not what you're after.
Cheers,

Re: Multilingual Support
No, I meant written as in "Ctrl+F1". Even Japanese keyboards have "F1" so I think that's a universal set of terms.Filehero wrote:Do you mean the shortcuts exactly as written? Then, no.admin wrote:I assume that the keys "F1" to "F12" are not translated in any language?

Though I once have been to Japan for 6 weeks, I really don't remember the type labels.admin wrote:No, I meant written as in "Ctrl+F1". Even Japanese keyboards have "F1" so I think that's a universal set of terms.
But yes, I'm with you and think that in computer context the idioms "F1" to "F12" are as universal as cheeseburgers for snacks or Rolex for watches - or crisis for Euro.
I would start of the simple way and wait until the first 10 complaints have come in.
Cheers,
Filehero

Re: Multilingual Support
To all who volunteered to translate:
OK, I got lots of valuable feedback by DmFedorov (via email) and almost none by anybody else. Thanks guys!
Are you shocked by the size of the work, or just speechless from happiness?
Anyway, very soon I will reach a point of no (or hard) return. If you have anything to say, say it now.
I'd also like to know if your silence means you back out from the job. In that case I will actively look for other translators.
Anyway, it looks like the hardest part is done by now. All seems to work smoothly and -- as always -- blindingly fast. Only the CAT is missing, and that's the next thing I'll do. After a short break in the sun!

Hello Don,admin wrote:... and almost none by anybody else. Thanks guys!
I can only speak for me. What sort of feedback are you waiting for?
Yes, you did a lot of great work recently – as always.

DmFedorov found countless missing text strings, and other sorts of problems.Do not start yet with the serious work! This first version is just for
playing. Try something. Look for questions and problems. Give feedback.

Re: Multilingual Support
PS: Extremely important would have been feedback from East Asia. Nothing at all came. A bit weird because I have lots of users in China and especially Japan. Probably they all speak English well enough, so they don't care. Well, the MLS effort always had two paramount targets anyway: France and Germany, probably the only countries in the world that cannot speak English.

Re: Multilingual Support
Equally, can't say for the others but 'do not start yet with the serious work' prevents me from finding any other 'questions and problems'.
Won't defend myself as you saw how deep, publicly or not, I went on *current* status of the project.

You can add Italy too!!! But apparently I'm the only one here from Italy...admin wrote:Well, the MLS effort always had two paramount targets anyway: France and Germany, probably the only countries in the world that cannot speak English.

Hmmm...
