Program Compatibility Assistant - flash.ocx

Post by Zigo »

This dialog just popped up out of nowhere, which I've never seen before.
I always have a number of XYplorer windows open, I don't think I just closed any prior to the dialog appearing.
I just clicked 'This program worked correctly' and carried on. I'm on 11.60.0100

flash.ocx??? Never heard of this and it's certainly not required in XY.

Which Win version?

May not be related, hopefully not, but be careful.
A similar type of pop-up happened with me yesterday. All of the sudden I had all sorts of craziness going on. Ended up with one of the win32 virus variants.
Reading up on on the bleepingcomputer site they can disguise themselves different ways. Image and video links being one.
Needless to say, I'm having unexpected 'fun' today.

Thanks for that info.

I don't think this was a virus though, it seemed like a genuine Windows popup which was confirmed to be from the 'taskhost.exe' process (found using the 'Find Window' feature of Process Hacker)
