History for every tab

Speed is definitely a good thing!

With the speed of today's processors, I'm just wondering how much of a performance difference there actually is these days. Of course, if there are many other changes beyond a simple recompile, then that's a completely different issue...

Well, who knows? Every version of VB has its pecularities some of them you find out only after years of experience. Learning a programming language begins *after* you've read the manual...

... So: even for dual-monitor folks it's better when I do not start with VB6 now.

Bringing back this oldie but goodie!
Whatever became of this per-tab history idea?

Because...I just had a situation that would have made this very handy!

I was doing some work in a number of temporary folders...so now THEY are the bulk of my History and all my prior history was pushed down/out the stack...I would have liked to either disable history while doing this task or had it been per-tab, then my "real" history would have been somewhat left intact for my other primary tab.

No time now for this, but an idea: the history is limited to only 32 entries for one reason: to fit in the menu on 768 pixel high screens. No, e.g. IE has a much larger history internally, but only shows parts of it in the menu. Not a bad idea, or?

I just realised!! isnt breadcrumb somewhat close to history per tab (HPT)?? While I would still like to have history per tab, but the need for HPT compared to my first post is 50% lower.

Well, breadcrumb helps a bit, but I'm still anxiously awaiting the day when Don can get back to this and implement History Per Tab -- this would make navigation MUCH better for me...

Because I go back and forth between tabs very frequently, and move around quite a bit within each tab, I find the existing behavior of the history to be almost useless for me, as the "previous" button will almost never take me to the location I want it to.

I have really gotten spoiled by FireFox's tab-specific history (including the very cool ability added by an extension that allows me to duplicate a tab (including its history) to a new tab. Very nice indeed...

Any chance of having History-Per-Tab in the not-too-distant future? (Please, please!)

If you followed the recent discussions here, you will know that this is not the time for it. Not yet! But when it comes, then also close-tab-go-to-previously-used-tab will come: both depend on the same code mainly...

I knew there were other things to come first -- I just wanted to make sure this feature hadn't fallen off the radar screen!

Id like to chime in and say this would be a very useful feature..another one of those dir opus things that I enjoyed in the trial. I dont know the technical challenges in such a thing but I know its pretty common in tabbed web browsers like firefox and opera.

Yes, that would indeed be a very interesting feature. One of the very few things I miss using XYplorer.

But as always, there are so many great features to implement and Don's workday only has xx hours.

It will be implemented for sure (see Don's post), so let's enjoy the thrill of anticipation.

What shall happen if you press BACK but the current tab has no history. Take the general history or do nothing?

Do nothing, I think. As said, I think this should be just like in Internet browsers, each tab has its own independent history.

Nothing, IMO, as it's equivalent to a new XY install in a way...but that also implies that if you close that tab by error, how do you get that history back?

I would prefer independent commands (and KSs) and TB buttons for the tab wise history, say blue arrows as opposed to the green ones we have now for global history. Okay?
