What's the point?

Post by aurumdigitus »

v11.70.0005 - 2012-10-12 18:20
+ Menu Edit | New | New Files...: Now creating folders (not only
files) through this interface is supported. Items with a trailing
backslash are created as folders.
Will someone pleaase help me to understand the purpose of this. It seems like such a superfluous datum of information to have to remember when New Folders in already right there in the context menu above it. :veryconfused:

You can create several folders like New, New1, New2 and so on. Just type out one folder per line and you get multiple folders in one go.

Yes, but unless something really obvious is escaping me here, isn't that exactly what New Folders already there does? Seems redundant.

Yes, but one might want new files (not folders) also per line:
New.txt
New.bat
New.ini
and so on.

Okay, understood. Forgive the obtuseness here but it still seems like a rarefied use mixing the addition of files and folders in one fell swoop.. Ordinarily ADMIN only puts in what he adjudicates will benefit a reasonable number of users.

I don't understand your concern, the options "New Folders" and "New Files" are two separate things.
You cannot create multiple new files using "New Folder" option and vice versa, so they are *not* redundant, unless you are talking about something else.

The fix was in response to this:
http://www.xyplorer.com/xyfc/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=8714

So (I think) "New Files" can create new folders, but not vise-versa...

I think that it doesn't make "New Folders" redundant though. In New Folders you'd need only to paste in a list of names:
blah
blah2
yadda
woopity
zing

In New Files you need to add slashes to them all:
blah\
blah2\
yadda\
woopity\
zing\

But it's good that you can still do it, because you can also do this:
blah\
blah2\blsdf.txt
yadda.ini
woopity\
zing\doopity\

 Thanks for correcting me, I've never used these, so was not fully aware.

Thank you for the lucid clarification, kunkel321. Whether this newly added feature is redundant or not remains a close call.

Apparently what is sauce for the goose is not always sauce for the gander. :eh:
