Add Tags from info panel problem

Post by karimmaster101 »

When I add tags to one or more items through info panel tags tab, it didn't add new tags to tags list.
I should right click on tags column and click on "add tags to tags list"
Is there any way to make this process done automatically ?

I have another question, for example i have 2 folders, first tagged with "photoshop" and other one tagged with "illustrator". How I can add "Photo Editing" tag to both of them and keep old tags as well.

indeed it seems like Tags Info panel is incompetent here, though scripting allows both.

Confirmed. What now?

1) automatically add them?
2) configurable in configuration / tags?
3) tweak?

from my point of view, Tag panel should have a tick "Add to tags list"(on by default) right under Reset button, 'cause not always/not all tags need to be added.
as for adding new tag to several items with different tags- they should be added by default, but i agree that option to replace could be useful too.

more of a problem, as i see it, is depiction of different tags when numerous items are selected. currently it only shows the data of focused item, which is somewhat confusing. there should appear some symbol/icon to show that. for ex if selected items have different tags(labels, comments) show # in those lines instead of only focused item data. then user can just add comma and continue to add tags like this: #, new tag.

Yes, possible, but I currently don't intend to complicate the Tags tab by further elements.

Yes, this is an issue that needs to be addressed. I'm surprised that not more users have pointed to this. Probably the tags tab is not really used yet by the masses. I'll wait for more feedback...

Hi there, I absolutely love the idea of the Info Panel for tagging but I must say I'm disappointed that Tags applied in the Info Panel aren't added to the Tag List. It has stopped me from using a very handy XY feature. I think it should be done by default in the same way that other tagging methods adds to the Tag List.

And while I totally support you not wanting to "complicate the Tags tab by further elements", I would like to see Tags added to Tag List either by default or have a config option that allows it.

I agree with eil that multiple selection "only shows the data of focused item" and "is somewhat confusing". For me it is, unfortunately another reason not to use the Info Panel for tagging.

Maybe "the tags tab is not really used yet by the masses" because the masses find tagging by this method doesn't add Tags to the Tag List and is somewhat confusing so, like me, they just don't bother using it :( It's a shame. I think the Tags tab would be a really great tagging tool if it was a bit more user-friendly

You mean # as a placeholder for the current tags of each item?

I'll add a tweak.

I guess I'm one of the masses :)
I manage tags from the List because the right click menu there has everything. And yes, the fact that in the Info Panel only the focused item properties are shown is confusing. So in my opinion making the Tags panel behave differently from the other panels would not be consistent.

No no, I meant what I wrote!
There are 8 panels in the IP. Exclude Find Files and Report, that are something on their own, you have Properties, Version, Meta, Preview, Raw View and Tags. As of now, these six panels show the info of the currently focused item, and this behaviour hasn't changed in years. What makes the Tags panel so special, compared to the other ones, to change it's behaviour?

Agreed, but how to deal with the understandable confusion?

Simply state in the help file that the IP works on the focused item only. There's no other way. If someone looks how the Properties panel behaves, he gets used to this paradigm and soon expects all the other panels to work the same way. Would be much more confusing a Tags panel behaving differently, on the long term. Plus, I'm 99% sure, someone would ask you to turn all the other panels behave like Tags (like I did months and months ago...)
