And hopefully, new users like beethoven may help improve the wiki even more by making sure that it's understandable by those who are not like us XY-FC regulars! As sometimes it's quite difficult to write docum for newbies! I encourage beethoven to make comments about sections of wiki that are unclear or confusing so we can all maybe work on those areas!

I am going to use the wiki extensively in the next few weeks and I am happy to pass on my comments - how or where would you like me to post these as I am not sure if this thread should be cluttered by this.

However my first impression was very positive, so there may not be that much to change :D
Having had a look at some of the other threads on the forum, I did find the wiki much easier to understand, perfect for a novice like me. Some of the queries raised on the forum obviously assumed a much deeper insight into the program. So hopefully it's also ok if I post a basic query  once in a while if I can't find the answer easily.

Glad you like it :) And you're welcome to comment obviously, can be done here in the forums, or for each page in the wiki there's an associated "discussion" page (link "discussion" on top of the page, next to "article") that is meant, in wikis, for discussing the actual article (eg: what you think could/should be changed, added, removed, might be unclear, etc)

Oh it sure is, people here will be happy to help anyone, new to XY or not, for a "basic" query or very complicated one :D

Jacky this is just fantastic. As everyone noted, we're grateful. That's a lot of work that Don didn't have to do — and we'd rather have him coding anyway!

And you realize that this means it's up to US to try and keep the Wiki up to date with all his changes! That could be a real challenge! :P
But if we all take a look at some parts of it, and update where we can improve it, or fix typos, the task is manageable...as in "How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time"... 8)

One thing that might help is to devote a section of the wiki to version history. Then users could, in their free time, peruse that and update the wiki acordingly -- removing or lining-out portions that they'd updated in the main respository. Might help to synch changes and wiki the prevent features and feature changes/updates from being overlooked.

Me, I've . . . corrected a spelling error. Whoo :)

Anyone here know why I get this msg every time go into edit on the wiki?
(Sorry! We could not process your edit due to a loss of session data. Please try again. If it still doesn't work, try logging out and logging back in. )
Most all of the time, it works ok anyway, but I'm curious...

Also, when I try to edit the "Mouse Down Blow Up" paragraph, all I get in edit box is that title.. :? No text at all...so what am I doing wrong?

What you see when you go to edit mouse down blow up is a reference to a template called mouse down blow up (go to template:mouse down blow up to see/edit the template). I don't know why it was done in that manner though, it seems that content would best be put on mouse down blow up, not an external template. I went ahead and moved the data from the template to the main page, so you can edit it at will now.

If someone knows some reasoning I don't for why it was done in that manner, please feel free to undo it and issue me my warning :)

I'm not sure, but maybe if you didn't check the "Remember me" option when you logged in, your session is set to only last for a certain amount of time. And if you took more than this time to go through the page and do your edits, when you wanna save your session maybe expired.
I did check the "Remember me" and never had to log in again, nor did I ever see this message.

Yep I undo your changes and put it back into the template ;)
I did use a template here, and I had a reason for it :P
Did so because MDBU is a feature used on different occasions in XY, and I didn't want to just put a link to the MDBU page without explaining what it was, nor did I want to repeat myself every time, so I used a template. Now when one update the template, "looks like" all pages are updated at once, since they all use that template (see Preview for example)

@j_c_hallgren: I put your changes in the template obviously, but just FYI as allen said when you edit a page that uses templates, their names are on the bottom "Template:Template_Name". Just click it and go edit it then ;)

Just to see what happens, I went into wiki, logged out, cleared cookies for that session/domain, logged in with Remember Me, and went into edit on a section...got same error message! :?

And regarding template: I'm quite new to wiki's so didn't follow that situation...that explanation makes sense, and now I'll now for next time!
So I'm presuming it's possible to override a template with some custom text for each usage?

Also, hope my revisions to MDBU make sense! I'm trying to write it for someone who has never seen the product before and...references to XED were a bit confusing, as they are somewhat obscure and dated.

hmm.. well, I don't know then. Tried to search a little about this, seems other people in other wikis have been confornted with such a message, but I'm not sure why it happens or how to fix it :?

hmm.. not really sure what you mean here. Basically here having a templates means whenever the MDBU feature is used I just include the template so it's always the same text, and needs to be updated once for all places.
It's also possible to use variables a such, so some part are displayed or not accordingly....

Makes sense -- I guess I'm too used to wikis that just link to a body of text rather than actually include it. Sorry about that :)

Jacky, since I don't have any way (that I'm aware of) to contact you off-list (as PM is disabled and no email), I'll put it here as it applies to the wiki, and I'm doing so simply to make our view to other new users better:
I've noticed a few consistent spelling errors on pages that, I believe, you have authored...given that English is not your primary language, (true?), you're doing exceedingly well 8) , so...

1) The word information never has a plural, as whether it's one item or millions,
it's still information, not informations.
2) The word "those" often shows up as "thoose" and I've fixed a number of them...

You can contact me via email about others...just put a @Yahoo.com after my userid here...

Yes, I noticed I've made a few mistakes & typos ; and I've seen this in your changes, along with "these", "until" and others... I'll try my best not to do them anymore ;) (maybe I should add an auto-search&replace for such things on the wiki :P)
I now know information doesn't have a plural, but since it does in french I do have this "reflex" to add an "s" there  (And no, English isn't my mother-tongue)

BTW, Thanks for your work on the wiki :)

jacky, You're welcome! :D
I've tried to attack various pages/places for typos and such...and...is there some way you as Admin could do a global edit for "thoose" and "informations" and such?
As it was on the "Info to Clipboard" page that I had noticed more of them, and it would be nice to clean them all up if possible, so users like me can concentrate on syntax, clarity, ease of understanding, and such...

Oh, by the way, when I was in middle school (WAY back when! ), I had a few classes in learning French, before I switched schools...I just couldn't get it! So my compliments to anyone, like you and DON, who do this well in English as a second language! 8)
