Hi there, Is it possible to remove (or hide) the .lnk extension from file/folder shortcuts? Cheers.

Removing -> No, you would render them useless.
Hiding -> Only the extension while showing all others? Don't know a way to do it.

If you just want to hide all files with this extension from the current list, use a filter:

filter ".lnk hidden" !*.lnk;

Thanks highend, Sorry, No I didn't mean to actually remove them. In windows there's a registry value to hide the "- shortcut" extension and I was just wondering if the same could be done in XYplorer.

You can hide extensions in XY but not specific ones (at least I don't know any way to do this).

Cannot be done. IMO hiding the LNK extension is a security problem in Explorer. My T-shirt says: Showing LNK extensions and proud!

Yes I can see how some might see that as a security issue. But it's nice to have the option in Explorer. I find the shortcut arrow tells me when something is a shortcut and I don't execute it unless I know, or check, what it is. And if Explorer used ".lnk" for their shortcut extension I guess it wouldn't be quite so bad but it doesn't. It uses "- Shortcut" and that is a right pain to look at if you use lots of shortcuts. So at least XY doesn't use that too, with no way to hide it :appl:

My Explorer uses ".lnk", respectively attaches "- shortcut.lnk" to the name.

The "- shortcut" text can be avoided (for new links): http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows- ... -in-vista/

Works for Win 7 as well.

Yes, thanks, I know how to remove the " - shortcut" extension in Windows. It's one of the first I things I do with a new/reinstalled computer. I've been doing it for so many years that I've become used to seeing my shortcuts without any extension at all and that's why I asked if the same can be done for the ".lnk" extension in XYplorer.
