Cannot play mp3 or wav files in preview mode.
I am running XYplorer 10.80.0200.
I have recently received the error message Cannot Decode when trying to
preview audio (mp3 and wav) files. How do I recover this functionality? I am
able to play these files in all my other audio playing software.
Furthermore, when attempting to preview an mp3 file, I get a picture of the album cover instead.
Any help will be appreciated.
Thank you.

Go to Tools>Configuration>Previewed formats>Audio & Video files and make sure both mp3 and wav are there.
Similarly make sure you don't have them in Image files or any other category.

Thank you for your reply. The formats are correctly listed in audio and video and nowhere else.

I do not use WMP, but all my other media players like Audacity and Nero Showtime play them.

Well, XY uses same codecs as WMP, so if you cannot open those files with WMP then you cannot preview them in XY.hewolff wrote:I do not use WMP, but all my other media players like Audacity and Nero Showtime play them.
Also, most of us use codec packs such as K-lite codec pack which allows for several file extensions to be previewed inside XY.

Unfortunately, I do not wish to install WMP or a K-lite codec pack. If you knew specifically which codecs are needed, I could check to see if they appear in my system.
Thanks again for your help.

Firstly, I am not sure if the mp3 or wav preview will work if WMP is not installed (Since its an integral part of windows OS and XY relies on its codecs).hewolff wrote:Unfortunately, I do not wish to install WMP or a K-lite codec pack. But you can still try manually adding codecs. I am not sure which ones are needed, you have to find that by reading around. One source i could find is this:

Good luck.

Thanks. I obviously have codecs installed because I can play the files in other programs. Yet, I will explore the win7 and WMP codecs to see if they are different. Many thanks for trying.

Oh! I do believe that you have codecs installed, but the question here is if they will be used by WMP? And since you don't want to install WMP, its a hard question to answer.hewolff wrote:Thanks. As I mentioned before, the rule is: If WMP can play it, XY can preview it.

Re: Cannot play mp3 or wav files in preview mode.
FYI. I stumbled upon a Windows site that gave the following instructions:
From the http://support.microsoft.com/kb/947541/ ... ixItMyself:
1.Log on as an administrator.
2.Click Start, type cmd in the Start Search text box, right-click cmd.exe, click Run as administrator, and then click Continue.
3.At the command prompt, type regsvr32 wmp.dll, and then click OK.
This solved my problem.
Once again thanks for all your help.
