Copy and paste aren't working properly sometimes...

Post by cadu »

Hi,
I could realized when pressing crtl+c to copy folder from pane 1 and press crtl+v to paste to pane 2, the folder have disappeared from pane 1 but it wasn't pasted to pane 2. The folder just disappeared. It happened few times since I installed version 11.20 (former versions it never happened). What could be happening? Could it be related to run XY as administrator as well?

Does the missing folder turn up when you refresh the destination folder/tab?

Refresh doesn't work.

The problem appeared in this very moment again.

I tried both ctrl+c/ctrl+v and context menu (copy/paste). In this two trials XYplorer failed. It is strange that the file disappeared from origin but didn't go to destination. I just close XYplorer and ran it as administrator. Considering the same files/operation, now XYplorer worked. Before I had tried ran as administrator and the files were pasted properly as well. It is strange, because former versions I didn't run XYplorer as administrator most of time and this kind of problem never had appeared.

I can't think of a reason why a folder that's *copied* would disappear from XYplorer's view. Sorry for asking, but just to be sure: you do mean copying rather than cutting?

Do you mean by the last quoted sentence that you retried the entire operation and it worked, or that the copied (?) folder reappeared in both source and destination?

Also, do you use Custom Copy for copy operations?

I have sure I am doing the right operation, including because I tried by shortcut keyboard and by menu context selecting the name of the operations.

About I "retried the entire operation and it worked", it just worked after I have ran XY as administrator. So, the administrator issue seems to me to be related with the problem.

I can imagine reasons why the data might not be copied.
I can't think of a reason why the source could "disappear" on copy.

Very strange...

i am also having the same problem except it occurs when i cut and paste. i have recently reformatted my computer (win xp) and re-installed the latest version of xyplorer. what is happening now, however, is that when i cut and paste a file the file does not appear in the destination folder even though it has disappeared from its source. closer inspection reveals that it has instead been pasted into another pre-existing sub-folder of the destination folder that it was meant to go in.

then, when i try to cut and paste the file from the unintended sub-folder up-a-level to where it is supposed to be i get a message 'note there is a partial overlap between source and target..' Then after going ahead with the move i get an error moving file or folder message 'cannot move 'file name'. The destination foldre is the same as the source folder.'

@macz: Do you have Configuration > Advanced > Miscellaneous > Paste to selected list folder, enabled? That might (partially) explain it.

yes i have that configuration enabled. i've tried uninstalling and re-installing xyplorer but to no avail. i've now gone back to an earlier vs (10.70) that i had previously kept and it works fine, so something has changed in the interim. thanks for the quick response though nas8e9 :)

Disabling that setting doesn't make a difference?

ah, i misunderstood your initial response. i have disabled the 'paste to selected list folder' setting and that does appear to have resolved the issue. thank you nas8e9. :)

I just checked and Windows Explorer in XP and Win7 does not paste to the selected folder. So I will change the factory default of XY to that behavior to avoid further understandable surprises of users.
