Hello,
I am a new user of the 30 day free-trial version. I am trying to search for a file (files) using a word that appears in the contents, not the filename. When I fill in the Contents window with the expression I wish to search for and press F3, it doesn't search but brings up Quick Name Search. I can't find a way round this. Thanks for your help.

Redefine the shortcuts...
Menu - Tools - Customize Keyboard Shortcuts
Use the Jump... button at the bottom.
Enter: search
Doubleclick on Quick Name Search and give it a new hotkey (e.g. Alt + F3).
Do the same with the search term "find" and doubleclick on Find Now.
Check if it has F3 as the shortcut. If not, change to it.

Re: Find by contents
Thanks, XYplorer is searching now. However this has revealed more problems. It does not find files which are present within the Location that I have specified. This failure applies both when using Contents or Name & Location options. It sometimes places a file in the Search results field which does not have the Name or any part of the name that I have requested to be found. For instance it found a Tif image file with a completely different name to what I had specified.

Can you give exact examples of file names and parts of content, that aren't found?Sengwa wrote:Thanks, XYplorer is searching now. However this has revealed more problems. Re: Find by contents
Further tests show that the issue arises only when I search for a character string in the contents of image files (TIFs, JPGs etc), i.e. in folder trees containing only image files. Now that I know about this, it is easily avoided. So that completes my trial and I shall purchase a copy.
