How to purge background queued items?

Post by j_c_hallgren »

After a hard drive crash in April, I finally had to give up on my ole W2K and move to my backup XP system...which brings some new things (to me) that i'm still getting used to...one of those is the "Not Verified software" popup that XY gets when I update it...by default, the 'cancel' button is active on popup so if I do that on XYcopy.exe, the pending copy job gets stuck and AFAIK, the only way to clear it is to exit XY and restart.

So...my question is: is there a way to selectively purge pending copy jobs? If so, I'm not seeing how to.
Still spending WAY TOO much time here! But it's such a pleasure helping XY be a treasure!
(XP on laptop with touchpad and thus NO mouse!) Using latest beta vers when possible.

Right-click the job in the background jobs dialog and select "Skip Job".

That's fine for the 2'nd-N'th jobs but on the first one that is hung up in "Loading" status, the "skip job" is grayed out and not available...so I can't get back to redoing the copy and getting the 'verify software' popup again to select 'ok'...the only way appears to be by exiting XY fully and restart.

Not a big deal but had me wondering why copy wasn't occuring...and it's because M$ wanted big $$$ that you're not a verified publisher, right?

Yes, that's right. I'm currently applying again for some official Windows 8 badge but they don't even answer my email and the official website for this has an error. One needs patience (or lots of money) with this...

Found this reseller of Comodo code signing cert's with pricing as low as $73 a yr based on 5 yr plan...yes, still costly but MUCH better than $165 or such a yr! That's about $6 per month...maybe worth it for giving yourself more 'authenticity' in the security area?

Didn't check all the sites from http://www.comodo.com/partners/strategic-partners.php but some don't offer the type of cert's you'd need to avoid this popup.

Thanks, I'll give it a try.

I was partially led there via http://www.wintellect.com/cs/blogs/jrob ... ought.aspx (hard to read for me with black/white) which mentioned Tucows and also http://qualapps.blogspot.com/2008/05/ch ... cates.html which said a Comodo reseller was the way to get a decent price.

The only downside of Comodo is the possible lack of Win 9x support but I think that's such a trivial issue at this time that I'd not bother me.

Thanks again for the tip, j_c_hallgren, I did it. Worked nicely.
