XYplorer goes nonresponsive a lot

XYplorer goes nonresponsive a lot
Win 7x64. I've found with recent betas XYplorer became nonresponsive quite frequently. For example, click on a file to highlight it and nothing happens for many seconds, and then maybe what happens is the file opens instead of being highlighted. Then I finally get one operation done and the whole thing repeats itself with the next, such as trying to bring up the context menu by mouse to create a new folder. Not every time, but enough to wonder what's going on. Now with 11.40, it's become even more frequent and "Not Responding" actually shows up top now. When I've checked Task Manager, it shows "xyplorer.exe *32" process using 13% cpu. On my computer that level seems to be an indicator that something's wrong (e.g., Opera 12 did or does the same thing and lots of testers have reported it).

Re: XYplorer goes nonresponsive a lot
Thanks for the idea. I wasn't sure if you meant disable tooltips within XYplorer, in Win 7 or both. I started with this app and on first testing there weren't any problems. Later in the day, another app's developer suggested turning off Win 7's tooltips and it helped with that program (email) as well. However, one thing that's been going on here for sometime with XYplorer and continued this morning is that the app is sometimes very slow to close after clicking the X. Today it took close to 10 seconds. Why wasn't apparent to me from a check of Task Manager during the process.

I meant to untick this: Configuration | File Info Tips | Show file info tips.

Re: XYplorer goes nonresponsive a lot
I too have been seeing frequent non-responsiveness on my XP system. Turning off file info tips seems to have solved it. There may be a bug here because XYP became unresponsive when trying to open a folder, not when hovering over a file.
Re: XYplorer goes nonresponsive a lot
I have noticed this too with version 11.40. It takes almost 10 seconds to open to my C drive. This should be almost instantaneous. I have also noticed that at times it seems to take upwards of 30 seconds to rename an exe file on my C drive ( get the message 'not responding' until it finally responds). When trying other 'Explorer' software the applications open up almost immediately. It seems to be getting slower with each new version of the software.
I am running Windows 7 64 bit with 4 GB of RAM and a 500 GB hard drive.

Could you post the output of Help > Various Information, with the Ctrl-key pressed; this should produce a dialog subtitled "Settings that may affect speed". The contents can be copied by right-clicking and then selecting Select All, followed by Ctrl+C.JoyceAE wrote:I have noticed this too with version 11.40. Also, what security software do you use?
Finally, Microsoft's security software (both MS Security Essentials as well as the built-in Windows Defender) causes slowdowns when XYplorer is running. If you use either, could you exclude XYplorer.exe and XYcopy.exe as described here.
Re: XYplorer goes nonresponsive a lot
Thanks for the response. I added the exclusions to Security Essentials and will see how it goes. Here is the contents on the 'Various Information' from XYplorer:

Slowdown cause number one: An active virus scanner can severely slow down file operations and make XYplorer less responsive. Especially Microsoft Security Essentials can have a dramatic negative effect on speed. Try to add XYplorer.exe and XYcopy.exe to the exceptions.
I am always connected to my home network and regularly browse my external drives attached to my desktop.

Re: XYplorer goes nonresponsive a lot
I'd expect that to make the biggest difference.JoyceAE wrote:Thanks for the response. I added the exclusions to Security Essentials and will see how it goes.
It might be worthwhile to disable Configuration > Advanced > Auto-Refresh > Include network locations.JoyceAE wrote:Here is the contents on the 'Various Information' from XYplorer:

Re: XYplorer goes nonresponsive a lot
Adding the exclusions to Security Essentials didn't make a whole lot of difference. It still takes 1-15 seconds for XYplorer to initially open up. I even disabled Configuration > Advanced > Auto-Refresh > Include network locations. Still not a lot of difference in starting up.

Re: XYplorer goes nonresponsive a lot
In order to rule out something specific to your XYplorer-configuration, could you try with a clean profile as described here?JoyceAE wrote:Adding the exclusions to Security Essentials didn't make a whole lot of difference.
