A few questions:
1. what are your XYplorer and Windows versions?
2. could you post some examples of Unicode folder names that cause you trouble?

Yes, I can confirm this on:

XYplorer: 11.30.0108 (Pro Edition - Lifetime License Pro)
OS: Windows XP Professional (Service Pack 3), 32-bit (v5.1)

LocaleID: 3079
ThreadLocale: 3079
Default ANSI Code Page: 1252
Active Code Page: 1252 (ANSI - Lateinisch I)
DBCS Code Page: No

if the folder name contains characters from Cyrillic script or diacritics of, for instance, south Slavic Latin script languages. I was not aware of that before, so it might be new.

Code: Select all

Example: čščććčščöüääöüöлоывогщшгуцурт
Seen as: cšccccšcöüääöüö??????????????

Don, note the conversion to c (these diacritics are not replaced with ?)! For me, this would be a hint that somewhere a conversion to the current code page takes place. It is really weird that it is OK at your place. Just my 2c.

No conversion here, all perfect. (German system)

Systemsteuerung / Regions- und Sprachoptionen / Erweitert

I have Deutsch selected there.

Could it somehow be that Windows is regarding XYplorer as a nonUnicode capable application? I do not know how an application tells Windows that it is Unicode enabled.

I have this:

Code: Select all

LocaleID: 1031
ThreadLocale: 1031
Default ANSI Code Page: 1252
Active Code Page: 1252 (ANSI - Lateinisch I)
DBCS Code Page: No
and it works. I set the titlebar caption in unicode. No codepage conversion involved AFAIK.

11.30.103 and other beta i can't recall: no progress. Is it expected to see a solution for this?
Thanks to Borut who provided more than enough examples of what I am going through.

The solution is to quit Windows Classic Mode.

 I think you need a new tech guy!
That's like saying if you use color red instead of blue, that it'll be slower...If that can be proved, I'll be totally amazed.
Still spending WAY TOO much time here! But it's such a pleasure helping XY be a treasure!
(XP on laptop with touchpad and thus NO mouse!) Using latest beta vers when possible.
