app freezes after deletion of large nr of files
Hello!
I'm facing this problem repeatedly so I decided to ask for some help.
After deletion of 18.562 files - almost 30 minutes and no chance XYplorer become responsive again!
I bet it's UNDO capabilities that are interfering. any way I can disable it, temporarily? A setting to auto-disable if selected items are > say 5000 files?
It does delete the files but then freezes to death.
*NO, disabling UNDO does not make a difference here... =S
Upon deletion of ~122 k files, I got this:
Error: 7 (00000007)
Desc: Out of memory
Dll: 0
Proc: RefreshAfterShop
Source: XYplorer
XY ver: 9.90.0402
OS: Windows XP Professional (Service Pack 3), 32-bit
Date: 10/6/2012 12:36:59
The app did not shut, just went frozen.
Please note: the files are deleted. The problem is the freeze I face so I need to close-kill XYpllorer each and every time. Too bad.

Re: app freezes after deletion of large nr of files
Hi and welcome,
I can think of two things to try:
1. first and foremost, if your license allows, I'd install the latest release or even beta version, for the simple reasons that the developer will probably not want to bug-trawl an old release, as well as that this problem may already be fixed;
2. does backgrounding deletes (Configuration > File Operations > Background Processing > Enable background processing, and applied to at least Delete) help matters?

Re: app freezes after deletion of large nr of files
The deletion from list, ie, huge number of files inside sub folders, does not cause this freezing. But deleting files from a search or a branch view tab, does.
@nas8e9: using 11.30.
Yes, I'll try that. Thanks!

Re: app freezes after deletion of large nr of files
I tried on several other versions/operating systems just to see if I could find an error-free one.
Unfortunately none was found so I decided to ask for help here.

Did backgrounding deletes improve matters?

Re: app freezes after deletion of large nr of files
Another common problem: when I invoke Selection Filter on a search results tab containing several files it resorts list and come back to normal list view so I can't Select Filter anything. That doesnt happen on branch view tab though, ie, the list is refreshed but brach view tab is kept instead of beaming to original list view. Hope this is clear enough.

No.

"Out of memory" is a rare bug.Terry Byrne wrote: Upon deletion of ~122 k files, I got this:
Error: 7 (00000007)

Dll: 0
Proc: RefreshAfterShop
Can you reproduce this? Well, deleting 122 k files is a bit hard to reproduce often...
Please describe as detailed as possible what you did. I will try to reproduce it.

Re: app freezes after deletion of large nr of files
Always happens.
Download a pack like this:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/openico ... 2/download
Do a branch view on it, then visual filter "|!*.ico", selection filter "*:". Del everything.
For the "out of memory", do it on a larger pack like http://sourceforge.net/projects/openico ... 2/download

Anyway, v11.30.0007 should improve it.

All other problems are gone but this one which happens on deletion of +-126k files.
Reproduce downloading again the ~400 MB file from my previous post, "For the "out of memory", do it on a larger pack like http://sourceforge.net/projects/openico...

Confirmed (v11.30.0007). v11.30.0008 survived one test here.

Re: app freezes after deletion of large nr of files
Problem is gone. A small request: when I am in rename mode and hit the end of the list, if I press the down arrow key the rename mode jumps to the top of the list and that is cool. Can this be done on list, too, in "normal" mode?
Option to jump to first folder or first file wouldn't be bad at all as sometimes is really a pain to scroll all the way up to the first file. Sort folders apart is on. Sure "home" key is an option if I want to scroll up to the first folder, but what happens in rename mode is a bit faster when you have to do such a thing repeatedly.
All in all huge thanks for solving my problem with huge lists!
