Folder Snapshots

Post by Gabrielle »

D'hey, what a nice piece of software you have around here, ya? Everything configurable, extensive help file and some unique features to fiddle with. I'm enjoying the ride particularly impressed by the tagging features which are being of an invaluable help to me.
Yesterday I was playing with the multiple drag-context menu options and found 'copy branch(es) here'.
As a professional photographer I always wanted a practical way to control the current content on my portable devices, cameras and such. I almost yelled a 'wow!!!' when I found the feature as it could help me lots as now I can copy the folders and subfolders the way they are and store everything on a single folder and easily search a set of pictures from there without hoping each & every card looking after what I need.
Then I asked myself: 'if it can do it with folders, why not the entire set of files too?'. Along with the powerful renaming features xyplorer offers i would be one step closer to the pics paradise controling remote contents using those folders snapshots. =)

Well..... sorry.....
Think the way 'copy branch(es) here' works: it copies all the folders and subfolders but without content. That's useful and now I am used to it I just can't live without it.
But it would be totally wonderful if I could have a snapshot of everything within those folders without their actual content, just the names of the files so I can refer to those replicas instead of plugging each and every device or card each time I need to search stuff I know it's external to main drives.
Hope I did it right this time....
Thanks for answering!

Ah, you mean to create zero-byte kind of shadow files. Yes, that has been wished before. See here: http://www.xyplorer.com/xyfc/viewtopic. ... 172#p61172 . It's on my list.

Thanks for the link. A 3 pages long reading of small posts, cool for a Saturday.
Keeping the original dates will be of help as I often do searches on time frames either.
Until I have everything renamed using the features xyplorer is offering.... :ugeek: :ugeek: :ugeek:
I clicked on the 'Notify me when a reply is posted' board feature but is there any other way I can be notified when the feature comes available?

No, but a good start to getting any replies in future would be turning off that bold font.

I've searched everywhere in vers. 11.50 but no sign of the feature. Help, please?

Maybe folder report will help you?

Thank you for the suggestion but reports are not browse-able and I need to look and often 'virtually manage' those fake files as I am used to when I have 'created branches here' snapshots. When I do a final composition it's just a snap to mirror it into actual files.
Emulating the whole set of files would made my day each day.......

Being the E.T.A set to after or before the end of the world? The latter would certainly make a difference on grabbing today's discount at Bitsdujour!!!! :)

Perfect!!!! Wish I am not assigned to those boring, endless model shooting, paparazzi contracts or nature watching sessions for the next 3 months. Yay!

I was introduced to a program called zerozipper which partially does the job.
It zips all results (I have to un-zip them each time) and it doesn't provide any control on whether
or not I'll have system and time attributes preserved, not to mention it perform very slow on huge
number of files or whole drives. It's good to have the OPTION to zip results but it should not be ON
by default.
As far as I can see the feature was not implemented on XYplorer.
XYplorer scripts are falling into the low performance pit, either.
It seems to be a pretty simple task for a programmer but I can't find one who could create the
program.
Help.
