Hi,
It would be much better if you could preview documents with the program for your own choise. For example, by default word documents are opened within the preview screen with word, however, it takes a little while to preview it, because word is actually being started, when i tell xyplorer to preview word documents within the preview panel with wordpad for example it could get much faster to get the preview. Maybe a better example is this: making the preview for pdf documents not with adobe acrobat but with foxit reader, wich is much faster for open pdf documents. And when thinking a little furter... maybe it's possible to add file extensions by yourself, and add the program to it with what you want it to start previewing wit? that would be great! ;-)
Open documents in preview with another program then default

I'm not sure if this is possible, as AFAIK thoose files are previewed through Internet Explorer, thus XY does not really have control of what application will actually be used to preview the files.
But, not the same but, what you can do is use Tools/List Management/File Associations to have eg. pdf associated with Foxit Reader; then dbl-clicking pdf files will open them in Foxit instead of Adobe (and right-click/open would open them in Adobe as usual)

indeed, but...
The advantage of previewing in xyplorer is that you don't have to close the reader everytime you want to view another document, within xyplorer, you just click the other document and it opens up in the preview window, when you double click it the application opens and you have to close it everytime (or switch window) you want to view another document. The possibility to preview your documents directly, and also movies and html files is one of the main reasons i purchased xyplorer ;-). For now loading the preview of office documents and pdf files taking a little time because of the preloading of adobe reader or an office program. If you had the possibility to load your own reader application that is much faster at loading time, it would be another advantage.
Greetings,
Steve

Yep, I agree... if XY could use its own File Assoc. to preview it would be great, I'm just not sure if it is possible.
On a side note, you could associate your PDF files with foxit (thus making them being previewed in XY with Foxit) and make inside XY a file assoc. for PDF files with Adobe.
Then, PDF files would be previewed with Foxit within XY's preview, but when dbl-clicked they'll be opened with Adobe

I tried it to default open pdf documents with foxit reader..
I turned pdf documents to open automatically with foxit reader, and it seems to work in xyplorer now, wich goes much faster at previewing it. The best thing would be to be able to automatically open pdf documents in acrobat reader for full compatibility with all kinds of functions, and preview it within xyplorer in foxit reader for fast previewing. For now it's better to let it automatically open in foxit reader, and when i need it do an open with...

Re: I tried it to default open pdf documents with foxit read
Well, if you have your PDF files associated with Foxit, so previewed in XY with Foxit, to have them opened when dbl-clicking or pressing Enter, from XY, with Adobe just do this:itsme28m wrote:The best thing would be to be able to automatically open pdf documents in acrobat reader for full compatibility with all kinds of functions, and preview it within xyplorer in foxit reader for fast previewing.
menu Tools/List Management/File Associations
Then add a line like this (using the full path to Acrobat Reader's EXE file):
pdf>C:\Program Files\Adobe\Reader.exe
Should do the trick!

Exactly, it's not possible.jacky wrote:I'm not sure if this is possible, as AFAIK thoose files are previewed through Internet Explorer, thus XY does not really have control of what application will actually be used to preview the files.
That's all I can and have to add here for now, since jacky has done all the talking and kept my back free for the coding.

Thanks
It's ok, i can live with it and wait till the final new version is out, when i can preview pdf's with foxit reader, and by double clicking open it in adobe reader i'm happy ;-) I wait a little till the new version is out, so a few more things are added and/or fixed ;-). Jacky, thanks for letting me know about the new option, now i already know i have a good reason to download and install the latest version ;-)
