[help] search

Post by tekNerd »

It is normal for search function to freeze the other tabs? I mean when I try to find a file and even if tracker is superfast I am not fellow that stays and waits calm for the results, but wants to do something else in other tab(s);and I see in this moment that all the other tabs are frozen. So, this is normal or what i am saying is a whish (imposible one maybe)?

Furthermore, if I get too impatient and repeatedly click on another tab TrackerV3 crashes and wants me to tell Microsoft about the problem!!

That's the new dbl-click close... will be fixed in the next version.

Impossible. I explained several times in this forum how the tabs work and how they don't. If you want to run parallel processes on several tabs (tab = thread), you better go and choose another file manager...

Any resolution to this? Whenever I do a search, XYplorer will freeze completely for a few seconds (sluggish) or longer (as long as a minute).

XYplorer will indeed lock while a search is underway. Normally that isn't a problem because it's very quick to search, but with long-running searches patience is required. AFAIK this is a technical limitation of the language XYplorer is programmed in.

Your search does sound unusually slow. It is searching slow or network disks and/or is it a content search?

It does seem to matter what I search because for all files of a single type in the past few minutes, for example, in a single directory full of 19,000 items takes a few seconds but over 16 subdirectories with almost 670,000 files on a local SATA 1 hard drive the search can take up to a minute and will freeze XYplorer intermittantly (maybe every 10 seconds or so it will respond for a second before locking up again). XYplorer just seems to lag in general when doing most file operations, compared to Directory Opus and Windows Explorer. It also seems like XYplorer forgets its search cache--not the saved cached search results that can be retrieved if XYplorer is closed with search results, but if a search is performed, then a similar one relatively soon after the last search, it will be faster but maybe after 5 minutes it will take the original length of time again. Even computing a directory size with around 40,000 files makes XYplorer lockup for several minutes (and then it didn't even get to 1000 files for some reason). Directory Opus computes directory (including subdirectories) sizes seamlessly and can be aborted at anytime without locking itself up.
