Error log not created...

Post by j_c_hallgren »

I just had XY crash, and not sure exactly what I did to cause it...but...
It said that it was aborting and creating an error log...ok...fine...
But...where is it? I've looked in all the logical places, and searched C:\ for any files modified today...nothing that relates to XY! :?
So....???
Still spending WAY TOO much time here! But it's such a pleasure helping XY be a treasure!
(XP on laptop with touchpad and thus NO mouse!) Using latest beta vers when possible.

No, XY does not create an error log to file. However, in one type of error message you can opt to copy the message to the clipboard.

:? Well, I thought I saw in the msg box that it said it was creating an error log...but you know the code, so...maybe it's via a DLL that's invoked at abort?

Dunno, I've never seen it. Next time make a screenshot. I'm very interested in this beast.

....or, maybe it was the MS/Windows error report thing?

I have this disabled over here, but the usual message ask if you wana send a report to Microsoft, and I think it also (or in some case) mention a report log being created/sent also (with memory dump and/or stuff like that)

Wasn't the M$ thingy! It was a small gray pop-up that flashed and stayed on screen just a second or so until XY closed itself down...said something vaguely like "XYplorer is aborting. An error log is being created. Restart XY to continue"

This message definitely does not come from XY.

Finally getting back to documenting a bit more about this log for other users, after I found the answer:
This error msg box DOES come from Windows, and is usually when the application crashes with a fatal protection error or similar...
It's from DrWatson and there is usually both the log and a dump file..
They are found within the Windows directory...(I've deleted mine now but will update this post later with exact names and folder)
