Easy way to set standard folder view in all sub-folders of 1

Post by Evil MIndFrame »

Anyone know how besides using "Apply this folder view also too" every time you need to do the same layout on another folder??

Basically I like my music folder exactly the way I want it and all the folders have Artist Pics or album photos until I get to the last sub folders of the albums in which I would like them all to be Details specifically the way I want them. So far I have been going through the grueling process of manually saving the one I want to each folder but I know there must me a faster way!

Anyone's input will be appreciated.

Hi and welcome,

If I understand correctly, you want a subtree to have the same folder view settings, with the exception of the bottom folder, e.g.:
D:\Music\Album1\LastSubFolder
D:\Music\Album2\LastSubFolder

Folder View Settings allows you to define a FVS for a folder and all subfolders, which you could apply to D:\Music. As for the pesky last sub-folder, does that always have the same name or at least similar enough to express with wildcards? If so, this section of the help file seems promising:
How Folders Are Identified

Folder to apply the settings to. Folders are identified by their full name, or by a wild-carded pattern. By using a pattern e.g. like *\Images* you can define a common Folder View all folders named "Images". Note that it's also possible to state a list of patterns separated by | (pipe). An example for a list of patterns would be *\Images*|*\Pics*.

Yes that is what I need to do.. Also the last sub-folder name will only be similar to the artist folder because I do have the artist name in the last sub-folders titles, but it wont be similar to anything above the artist sub-folder.

Not sure if a wildcard will work but I will try. It might make it faster but is there a way to make all last sub-folders be set to view as descriptions?

This is what my setup should be -

Main Music Folder (Top folder in tree) - Large Icons with pictures (of genre folders)
Genre Sub-Folders - Large Icons with pictures (Of artist folders)
Artist Sub-Folder - Large Icons with pictures (of Cd covers)
CD Sub-folder (last folder in tree) - Detailed descriptions (run time - format, ect)

Now I want this exact format for the whole Main Music Folder. (It is very organized)

Thanks again.

Depending on your folder names a wildcard approach should work. For example:
