Once again... lazy sort :-)

Post by gteknoz »

After using explorer++ for a while on my Win7-64 notebook I decided it was time to look around for something more powerful for my file management needs.
I have stumbled upon xyplorer which from a quick test seems really great (fast, portable, scriptable, highly configurable, etc.).
The only thing that really stops me from switching to it is the lack of lazy sorting (which has been discussed in the past but not in the last few years).

When doing a lot of downloading/zipping/unzipping things gets messy really fast and having all the latest created files (created either by a download manager or an archive utility or a file copy) at the bottom of the list helps a lot expecially when all of this happens in a temporary directory with hundreds of files.

Are there any plans in the near future for something like this or has it been completely forgotten?

Nevertheless, thumbs up for the great program, even if it doesn't completely fill my needs.

Thanks and welcome!

I'll check that lazy sort again...

Lazy sorting is a natural consequence of Persistent Manual Sort. (PMS has been discussed on different threads gteknoz and may be implemented in the future, I'm really pointing this out to Don.)

Using Faststone's "custom sort" as an example: when you manually move (the position of) any items in the list, the app automatically switches to custom sort mode and an fssort.ini file is created in the folder (but I guess XYplorer would use a central database). When you revisit that folder you are shown your customized sort order but the app doesn't know where to place any items that have been added meantime so they get added to the bottom. gteknoz is right, "lazy sort" is great for download folders.

Edit: Sorry, the first line sounds a bit presumptuous. It's just that I can't envisage any other logical way for files added to a folder with PMS to be handled.

@admin : will be looking forward to any news on the subject!

@FeatureCreep : looks like an interesting feature even though I am not really interested in the persistent side of the manual sort.
Just new files being added at the bottom until a manual refresh (F5) is done or a new tab is opened would be great. :)

As a side note, if I try to quickly create a new copy of a file by CTRL-C / CTRL-V I get a popup saying that "paste into file is currently not supported".
This happens everytime I try to paste something in a tab and a file is already selected (hence the reason that ctrl-c/ctrl-v failes everytime).
Is there a way to disable this message and/or get it to behave like the classic windows explorer?

Can't confirm with 10.80.0300. Could you try with Configuration > File Operations > Custom Copy Operations > Use Custom Copy, enabled and applied to at least all copy operations?

Have you done any tweaks to the ini file?
Specifically: PasteToSelectedFolder=0
0 is the default.

Hadn't seen that error message "Paste into file is currently not supported" before. "Currently" suggests that this (appending clipboard content into a file) might be another cool feature we see in the future. :)

You get this message when a file (not a folder) is selected when you paste. I now realize that I should handle this differently. So IOW: fix comes. :)

Conc. lazy sort there is not much hope for the regular lists. But as FeatureCreep said: it will come naturally with Persistent Manual Sort.
