I've only been using XYplorer for about an hour - so applogies if I'm requesting something that alread exists.
There seems to be very poor keyboard support.
1) no way to add keyboard short-cuts to comands that don't already have them
2) no way to customise the key bindings
For example, it would be great to be able to open each favourite file with a ctrl+1, ctrl+2 shortcut, if desired. I can't find a quicker way than navigating with the mouse, and using three clicks. Favourites->Favourite Files -> <file in question>
Once keyboard shortcuts are learnt they are much quicker than mouse movements, and as XYplorer is all about getting things done quicker (right?) this would seem an essential quality to the application.
In relation to this, on the keyboard help page, there is no way to search for the function you wish to learn about - you have to read through until you find what you're after - this is quite annoying.

Hi!
Welcome to XY and the forum! I'm one of the newer but frequent posters here...and yes, customized keyboard shortcuts have been on the wish-list for some time...the author just hasn't found time to work it in, as I understand it...there have been a few threads/postings about it, but I didn't take the time to find one to link here...

Still spending WAY TOO much time here! But it's such a pleasure helping XY be a treasure!

Re: Keyboard support
Well, you could right-click on an empty area on the Tree (ie. not on a folder) to popup the Favorite Folders menu, then just click one to jump there!Markieboy wrote:I can't find a quicker way than navigating with the mouse, and using three clicks. Favourites->Favourite Files -> <file in question>
Only Fav. Folders though yeah, but you can use the Catalog and put your favorites (folders and files) there. Then, it's one click only to go there!!

Re: Keyboard support
Customizable keyboard shortcuts are planned for the catalog items. And for those items a lot of additional functionality is already on my mind (like action scripting, stored tabs, stored searches, virtual folders...). So there will be very powerful keyboard shortcuts in the future.

Go JC! Well, when customizable keyboard shortcuts arrive, then XYplorer will truly have no weaknesses in my view. In direct comparison with the big dog, Directory Opus, this is the only thing that people consistently mention. Being able to assign keyboard shortcuts to catalog items will go a long way because that means folders can have their own shortcuts. For me, I like to keep them numerical, sucn as CTRL+1, CTRL+2, CTRL+3....
Based on what little I know about coding, rewriting an application for customizable keyboard shortcuts requires a major overhaul. So we'll be patient with this request. The finishing touch would be to add a printable, exportable, and viewable keyboard map to help memorize one's shortcuts. The two best programs to implement this are EmEditor and FeedDemon. Consider EmEditor the model for best integration of keyboard shortcuts.
