Problem with settings backup

Post by mike76 »

I reinstalled my windows and i wanted to make a backup of my xyplorer settings so i copied all files from the XYplorer data folder. But when i installed a fresh copy of XYplore after the reainstall and use the files from the old data folder no settings were restored and i had to make all the settings manually. Is this the way to backup the xyplorer settings or i am making something wrong?

There is File - Settings - Backup application data folder... and it probably depends on what you copied to where (regarding to restore your old configuration).

What folders (for your settings) did you use?

I thought that all settings are stored in the application data folder. So i just copied all files from there. The next time will use the options from the "file" menu.

I thought that all settings are stored in the application data folder.
And that's correct. I use XYplorer portable (no install).

If I copy xyplorer.exe and xycopy.exe to a new folder (only these two files are needed for it to run) and start xyplorer.exe from there I have a "fresh installation". When I quit it, delete the "Data" folder in that directory and copy the Data folder from my original root folder of xyplorer to the current dir and restart xyplorer.exe I have the same config as before.

So you must have done something wrong when this procedure (adapted for the portable installation) wasn't working for you.

The menu entry only copies all entries from your settings folder (Data) into a new folder. Ofc this can be done manually as well.
