Left click drag-n-drop plus few more questions

Post by tdog »

Hello!
New user here.
1) For some reason I am unable to drag and drop file using the left mouse button.
How can I do it?

2) I am using a horizontal dual pane view.
I want to move a file from one folder to another by dragging from one pane to another. It would not let me move into a root of a destination folder if there are subfolders. It forces me me to move my file into a currently selected subfolder instead. Otherwise I have to use the tree on the left which is not really convenient. And I do not want to do a cut-paste operation because it tales a lot of time since I work with a high number of files.

This brings me to another question about the tree.
3) I would expect to see the tree view split for both of my panes but there is only one available for both. Anyway to enable this?

4) Is it possible for each pane to have a separate toolbar?

5) I also can not locate the UP arrow on the top of the panes. It is usually found right under the NAME column. DOes it exist at all?
How can I enable a Windows 7 style hyperlinking in the addresss bar? For example, if I am in C:\Program Files\Test\subfolder, is theere a way to simply click on the Program Files part of the path instead of going back twice?

6) I want specific folders to be always listed by Date Modified while everything else should be sorted normally. Is it doable?

Thank you for your help.

Hello tdog, welcome here
3) and 4) It is not currently possible
5) UP arrow : there is a button in the toolbar. Customize it.
Hyperlink : that is Breadcumb : right click the icon of the tab, then choose your destination.
6) AFAIK, not doable.

Hi and welcome!

1) Weird! You might try a Windows reboot.
2) Works here. Do you have screenshots?
6) Doable by Folder View Settings.

6) Ah yes ! I had understood that tdog wanted to sort, in the same tab, folders by Date and files not sorted.

Thank you all for advice.

I ended up removing the software and going with something else.
Split tree view and separate toolbars are a must for me, so there is no way I could live without it, sorry.

You should try more XYplorer.
It is full of features not encountered in other file managers.
For example you can open XY twice (in two instances), then you will have 2 toolbars and two tree views.
Give it a second chance, you will not be disappointed.
And more, the author has not said that you never can do what you need, he is always listening to the users.

Actually, you've given me an idea.

I installed it again, and now able to do a left click drag and drop. I must have changed something in the beginning but couldn't figure out what it was. It was a part of my frustration because even a reboot wouldn't hELP.
So, thank you for encouragement, I am going to try it more.

Hi and welcome to the XY forums!

As with any software, there are features that XY has that other FM's don't and vice-versa...and what you may hopefully find is that some of XY's unique abilities may outweigh the lack of another ability.

Also, as has been mentioned, there are a couple of items you're wanting that are on Don's "Roadmap" for future so just because XY may not have it now, it likely will at some point...but in meantime, maybe you can adopt ways of using XY that can still make it worthwhile for you...I've had cases before where I wanted something I was used to, but found a substitute that was even better.
Still spending WAY TOO much time here! But it's such a pleasure helping XY be a treasure!
(XP on laptop with touchpad and thus NO mouse!) Using latest beta vers when possible.

OK, the hyperlink thing is solved, good.

The Up arrow is in the toolbar, right, but that is not what I want, I need it to be inside of a pane, right above the top file or folder in any particular directory.

I can't find Folder View settings to change the way a folder is sorted.
Can someone please just tell me where to go? :-)

I don't know if this will help you, but it worked perfectly for me, as I used to use the UP arrow all the time also. Then, I discovered the setting in Tools->Configuration->Extended->Mouse->"Dbl-click on empty space goes up"

Now I use it all the time rather than the Up arrow -- my mouse is already in the list view, and I don't even need to move it up to the top -- just find empty space and dbl-click!

Welcome to the wonderful world of XY! I think the more you look around, the more you'll like it!

Andy,
it is absolutely great!

That's what I need, and yes, I do find it more convenient, it does exactly what I want at pretty much any place that I want.

I figured out why the left mouse dragging was disabled...I must have accidentally checked to disallow the left click dragging. it was under the same extended mouse options, so now I know.
