:info: Please include the following information:
1) Your XYplorer Version (e.g., v28.00.0801)
2) Your Windows Version (e.g., Win 11)
3) Your Screen Scaling Percentage (e.g., 125%).

:info: We strongly recommend adding your Windows Version and Screen Scaling Percentage to the Location field in your Profile or to your Signature. That way, you only have to type them once, and we won't have to search for that vital information.

Problem with .mov .flv

Post by Djoka Farkas »

Hello there,
It is claimed that XYplorer to be able to preview and have a tumbnail for .mov .flv .mp4 in reality message is "cannot decode" I am able to view in VLC player, all of them, meaning that I have codecs. And I have Windows 7 64bit. Any ideas?

Hi and welcome,

codec-wise XY is in the position of WMP. If WMP can play it, XY can too. VLC might use powers that are not available to other progs.

Thanks for the reply Don,
Fair enough, WMP can not play mov and flv, but why it is advertised that can preview them all, if in fact can not, or maybe requires some aditional workaround?

Codecs. I installed some KLite package years ago and can see everything in XY.

PS: ffdshow video decoder seems to make the difference.

Some advertisement for Klite: because I think everyone should have it. I cant say enough about it, its almost the first thing I install after I install windows. Takes care of all the formats I want and also thumbnail generation.

Not sure, but maybe install both 32-bit and 64-bit versions?

WOW!!!

serendipity, this solved the problem!!!

Thank you so much. If you did not post first link where they say install both 32 and 64 bit which, logically does not make sense, but it works. I wish if this can be put in some sort of sticky post or something, as many people suffer with similar problem. I am enlightened and amazed.

:D Thank you so much, all of you!!!

Glad that helped. In general it's recommended to install both 32 and 64 bit apps when something is missing, for example the context menu. See below link from XY FAQ:
