Tortoise Icon Overly - Auto Refresh FREEZE
Hi Don,
Can you please fix this issue where having tortoisesvn overlays and 'auto refresh' there is the UI freeze.
It should not be too difficult to reproduce. I am on windows 7 64bit. tortoise 1.7.1 (worked in past tortoise as well).
The freezes stop if i choose either 'show icons' off or 'auto refresh' off. But I want to be able to use both. It is difficult to develop/use without these features.
Is there any way to have both features working at the same time without hang?
Thank you,

Well, I am running on xy10.6, but this has happened on previous versions as well (i've test through 9).
Here is a previous thread on such that was determined by other users as well that tortoise and xy causes random lockups when having the 'auto refresh' and 'show icons' at the same time.

please let me know if i can help solve this in anyway. thanks,

Hi,
Well, i tried the 10.60.0121 and it still locks-up.
xy and tortoise are such good and needed tools. Not being able to use them both together is a crime against development

So why does it lock up at your place (and not at other places). What might be special about your place?AntKnee wrote:Hi,

Re: Tortoise Icon Overly - Auto Refresh FREEZE
I don't know what would be. I don't have much other things with overlays (such as dropbox). I do have a lot of files-system is 3 TB (2 drives, 1TB for c and 2TB for d). Is it possible refresh is taking that long? The system is fast, amd x4. The drives are WD black edition. The ram is 16GB.
Did you try on a win7 64 machine with tortoise and xy without any lockup?
Is there a 'watch' or debugger or output that can show what it happening at that moment. Some kind of tool to help track this down. Do you want to remote into my computer and see it happening? I can send video as well.
I know that with one setting (either auto refresh or show overlay) it works no problem. but both always has these little freezes.

Re: Tortoise Icon Overly - Auto Refresh FREEZE
It might be worth checking the icon overlay settings in tortoise, as they do offer some options for how the status is cached and the ability to declare include/exclude paths and with such large drives that might make a difference.AntKnee wrote:I don't know what would be. I know these are available in SVN and there's some similar ones for CVS - not sure if the DVCS ones have them or not. (My company doesn't believe in using technology that's still being actively updated...

Re: Tortoise Icon Overly - Auto Refresh FREEZE
Thanks for following up. Sorry, for the delay-I was testing .0123 for a little while because I actually couldn't believe it
YOU DID IT!
The changes you made to .0123 solved the issue. I have been using it for a few days now (with refresh and icons), and no sign of the lag.
If it happens again in future, I'll let you know, but so far nothing but smooth sailing. It is such a pleasure...
Thank you so much Don. YOU ROCK! I really appreciate it. This has been a thorn in my side for awhile. If I am ever in your neighborhood, I owe you a drink. Such great service.
I am even more a screaming fan now, so let me know when the T-shirts come out.
Seriously though, how about the XY logo on shirt? Has this been brought up already?
