Remember find mode between sessions

What I simply want to know: Is there some way (currently) that I can make the search settings not be remembered between runs?

I often use the Contained Text search feature. But these are highly-specific searches, and I never want to do it more than once. Yet whenever I do a Contained Text search, the Contained Text is remembered between runs, as is the Text search option itself. This tends to be really inconvenient when overlooked upon starting a new search (and inadvertently searching for the same text again).

hmm well. If you don't have "Save setting on exit" it won't be remembered, but that goes for all the other settings (inc. tab's location, ...) so that might not be the best way to go.

What I would suggest, cause that's how I do it is to create a Search Template, and when you wanna do a search you just load it first (simply do Alt+T after the Ctrl+F), so you know all your settings are set back to what you want (eg Containing Text not activated).

Thanks for the advice. Now I'm finding XY freezing up on me after searching, and when it doesn't, the search tabs won't always close. Weird stuff. I'm out of time for now though.

Okay, for once I'd say a "Reset" button below the "Templates..." button wouldn't harm.

Regarding the startup, I understand the problem. Maybe "Save settings on Exit" should be separated in two:
(1) "Restart where closed" = Start at the same location/tab where been when last closed. When I think about it, the current location/tab is not literally a setting but rather a state.
(2) "Save settings [literally] on Exit".

If option (1) would be disabled, then the app would by default start with the first tab selected (at its location); or at some (configurable?) default path, like Desktop.

Freeze, hang, is there a difference? Yeah, it was doing something goofy, but now I can't reproduce (very easily anyway).

I've found something kind of strange, though: If I configure the search to open in a New tab, sometimes the search results tab is locked, other times, not.

Re split of "Save on Exit": That might be a good idea as what I generally think of as 'settings' is those options that I change in Config panel, but 'state' (or some similar word) being those that I change via mouse clicks while using normal panels, such as Info Panel size, etc...

Well, maybe some splitting here would be something nice indeed, but I would suggest to go further that "Restart where closed".

Make "Save settings on Exit" be for "settings" only, and by settings I mean all that's in the Configuration window (and only that).

Actually, maybe rename it to "Save configuration on exit" or something. So this option would save on exit all settings on the Config window, and nothing more.

In thoose settings, we could have an option to save some other "settings" (hence the rename for save on exit) which relate to all that can be remembered between sessions, such as
- Window size/position
- Tabs (all settings: numbers, positions, locations, modes, etc)
- All kind of history (including lists (name, address bar, Go to, etc)
- Favorites Files & Folders
- Catalog
- etc

I think, as j_c_hallgren said, all thoose are proly not seen as "settings" by many and expected to be rememebered between sessions whether or not the "save on exit" is enabled.

It seems that jacky and I may agree that 'settings' could be interpreted in different ways...To me, there are four types of 'settings':
1) Those that you set once when you install or first use the product;
2) Those you set/change on rare occasions when need arises
3) Those you set/change often while using XY but still like to retain
4) Those you don't mind if (or prefer that) they get reset each time.

The first two types are what I would put as "config" type options and would expect a "save" to definitely keep...the third is what I'd see as being able to save/retain separately...and the fourth, well, they are disposable...

Now any values set via config panel seem to fall in the #1/#2 group.
Tabs and History and such fall into the #3 group in most cases, to me..
I can't think of a value that falls into #4 group at the moment, but I'm sure there are some/many(?)..

I definitely agree this may take some thinking/pondering!
One problem I foresee is determining exactly which settings one would want to typically keep and those one may not want...however, in looking at my INI file, I see that most are ones that I'd like to keep...so...

So would this just turn off the six filter checkboxes? If so, YES please!
Turning them off on-by-one is a bit slow...
Or would this also reset the actual filter values? I'd prefer not.
