Improvements on navigation - tabs, network, hotlist.

Post by tiago »

a. per tab "goto previous location"? I mean, when I am on a tab, tab switching all the time, I'd like to be sent back to the previous location on that very tab instead of being beamed to the previous tab I was in. I am guessing there is already a feature for this but can't find it anywhere?

b. improve network response as it takes long for the list completely show up if a network path is listed. Generic icons are not doing a difference here. No exes, just plain aspx/diz/txt files.

xplorer2 takes a time (unnoticeably frozen!) then lists the files.
PowerDesk freezes immediately than becomes available with full files loaded (bad).
TotalCommander is a bit faster but when coming to foreground it reads the whole folder again (worse).
XYplorer at least gives a responsive list with a visual feedback on items loaded, although I think the "currently loaded/total files" would be better.

c. is there a way for hotlist to ignore other tabs if: I have tab A, panel 1 on "c:\path"; on tab D, panel 1 I am on "d:\path" but I'd like to go to c:\path either from hotlist. Currently hotlist enforces me the panel 1 tab A instead of opening the path right in the tab I'm already in (tab D). If I am on panel 2 all works as expected, i.e., being on tab A, panel 2 in d:\path I click hotlist > c:\path and bingo, I'm there (c:\path) although still on tab A, panel 2.

I'd really appreciate a comment here.

A little option for hotlist to not list network paths could be useful too as, if a network path is visited, hotlist turns into a coldlist, taking seconds to show after clicked due to aforementioned slowish network checkings.

a. Right below "goto previous location" you find what you want.

b. No, I cannot speed up your network.

c. No.

a. 'goto previous item in list' does what the blurb says (ie selecting an item, and in case of a folder, it'll don't go inside of it) while I need something to really go to previous location on each tab regardless of tab jumping. So currently shift alt f7 or f7 will forget previous location of the previous tab after I go to another tab, which is the problem.

b. No, you really can't. Me neither. Ping responses: 206, 1, 1, 2ms. :P

c. oh dear.

b. is it possible for you to please add block filters so network or other local paths are not monitored by both 'hotlist' and 'recent locations'?
So we additionally may have a little bit more focus on folders of immediate interest and the non-productive ones will not be a distraction.

I made some tests and the only speedup available would be direct connections which is unreallistic on real life network environments. :?

It seems that ~5 minutes without activities is enough to cold the connection. Is there a windows tweak to increase this?

I thought pinging the remote machine should suffice to speed up the re-connection but it doesn't do.
A "keep alive" signal broadcasted on regular times should be of help here but then one may keep it in safe distance asking "why is this trying to broadcast?", once flagged by his firewall. A GUI, factory-default "0" option may be the answer. Or a tweak like blockRemoteForRecentOrHotlist: \\server 1\shared,\\remote 2,... I dreamt about it, despite it's just one plain visualization of my previous post.

Tip: Define one tab as "Default tab" to avoid this kind of tab proliferation.

Ok,Admin as U are tired of typing repeated messages, use Autohotkey(open source) it can expand your sentences ...etc with
hotkey by defining an abbreviation.

Others: 1.whenever you update rm(-roadmap) **include it's edited date, and what's your next implementation of rm.
** - U know the reason for this.
2.Are you going to add tab row

I don't get your reply (to the tip I gave you). Is that your way of saying "thank you" or what?

Please limit yourself to one topic per thread. This is not a brainstorming session. And try to build your sentences in a way that other people have a chance to understand them; it's an old communication trick to put oneself into the position of the receiver and check how the planned words probably come across. Basically you have to use the language of hearer to be understood.
