Create Branch(es) Here

Post by John Bee »

Hi:

Ok, I have my F: drive. All it contains is my NetDLoads folder and a temp folder.

I want to use the "Create Branch(es) Here" to make a copy of the NetDLoads folder and all its subfolders to the temp folder.

According to the help:

Create Branch(es) Here

Drag a folder (or several folders) onto a target location and create a copy of this folder and all nested folders below it in the target location, without copying any contained files. What you get is a perfect copy of a tree structure, completely empty.

So I right click the NetDLoads folder and drag it to the Temp folder and select "Create Branch(es) Here" from the context menu, and the only folder that gets created in the the temp folder is the root folder NetDLoads and none of the subfolders.

I dragged from NetDLoads in the listview to the Temp in the listview, and from the NetDLoads in the listview to the Temp in the treeview but only the root NetDLoads folder and no subfolders.

I'm sure I did this before without any problems, don't know why it doesn't work for me now. :(

If anyone can show me what I'm doing wrong, I'd appreciate it.

Hi John

Just tested it myself and it works as described, no matter from where to where I drag it, e.g. list to tree, list to list, list to tab.

So maybe your folders are somehow special or corrupt?

Hi Ralph;

I don't know. I have spent the last couple of hours dragging and dropping practically every darn folder on my system to other folders and all I can accomplish is the rootfolder copied but none of its subfolders.

I am unable to get this command to work properly. :(

Ok, answering myself. When I boot up the machine, one of the startup programs is XY, it is up and running until I shut the machine down.

I guess I should have tried this earlier but, I quit XY and restarted it. Well, now it works OK :?

So I can only guess that something else was interfering/interfered with XY, I don't know, but it seems to be working now after having quit and restarting XY.

hmm.. there is something weird with this feature I think. Because I too start XY as soon as my computer is up, and usually only close it when I update it ;)

And when I first read this post I tried, and it didn't work either! I tried with an older version that I happen to have installed too for some odd reason, and it worked fine! ATM I thought it was maybe a new bug with the latest beta or something...

But after reading RalphM's post I tried again, since till then I was doing some tests (unrelated to this) and I did restart XY a few times. And yes, now it does work without problems.... :?

I also remember asking, probably here in thoose forums, a while ago about this feature, cause it didn't work for me. IIRC Don said it worked fine, I tried again and it did! But it was another day, so after a reboot/restart of XY probably.

Which would lead to me think as John Bee that, for some unknown reasons, at some point it "stops" working.

........ok I think I got it, or at least a clue for Don ;)
Seems to be working untill I press ESC. Doesnt need to stop something (like a Search or Calculate folder size or anything), just start XY, it works.
Press ESC. It won't work anymore !!

I also noticed that, when it does work all I see is a new "plus" sign added to the destination folder (if he didn't had subfolders already). When it does NOT work, the destination folder gets expended, ie the newly created subfolder is shown.

How did you do this? Magic? Impressive (although in this case I would have found it without the clue).

And thanks to John Bee for finding a stupid little bug!

Hi Don;

Wow, I found a 'bug' and didn't even know it :shock:

But it was really Jacky who figured it out 8) , I just blundered into it.

Ok you'd have done it without the clue this time, but look, you had a 1st clue earlier on and wasn't enough it seems: :P

But before my reboot it would only create the dragged folder(s), no more. :roll:
Nice try, but I don't believe you. :)
I knew I had reported this before.... ;)
