How to make XY open a new tab by default?
Given that I already have an XY session opened and double-click a directory on my desktop (assigned to XY), is there a way to make that directory be opened in a new instead of the existing tab? I can't find an appropriate option.
(Sorry if this question has been answered before, but the board search does not accept "new tab" as a query.)

Configuration > Startup & Exit > Open command line start path in new tab, should work like this.tux. wrote:Given that I already have an XY session opened and double-click a directory on my desktop (assigned to XY), is there a way to make that directory be opened in a new instead of the existing tab? Ah, alright. Misread that option ("command line? I don't use that for XY!") dramatically. Thanks!

Well, I enabled it, and now double-clicking a folder does nothing! No opening in a new tab, no opening in an existing tab ... it doesn't touch XY at all. (10.30, recent test build.)

Does re-applying the settings in Configuration > Shell Integration (in an elevated instance) help?tux. wrote:Well, I enabled it, and now double-clicking a folder does nothing! No opening in a new tab, no opening in an existing tab ... it doesn't touch XY at all. (10.30, recent test build.)

Uhm, no. A restart helped though.
Not really intuitive, that all. Probably right-clicking the "tray" icon and choosing "exit" should default to "exit (saving)"?

Re: How to make XY open a new tab by default?
It probably takes its setting from Configuration > Startup & Exit > Save settings on exit, like all other ways of exiting XYplorer (apart from the explicit options at the bottom of the File menu). In that, it's consistent.tux. wrote:Not really intuitive, that all. Probably right-clicking the "tray" icon and choosing "exit" should default to "exit (saving)"?

Hey, 'scuse me, I'm not too deep into its options on the new machine yet. I begin to know why portable installations are a good idea...
Anyway, that checkbox is ticked.

Re: How to make XY open a new tab by default?
So the remaining problem is that exiting XYplorer by right-clicking its tray icon and choosing Exit, does not save settings even if Configuration > Startup & Exit > Save settings on exit, is checked? I can't confirm that with 10.30.0005 on Windows 7 x64 SP1.tux. wrote:Hey, 'scuse me, I'm not too deep into its options on the new machine yet. The remaining problem - which differs from the one in the topic title, I'm afraid - is that exiting XY by try icon behaves strange in some ways. Like: I unticked "Startup minimized", exit, start, it's in the tray again. Like: The "tab" option mentioned is not saved (funny though: unticking IS saved).
Should I reset my config, maybe?

That's expected: with Save settings on exit, enabled, XYplorer persists the window state (maximised, minimised, etc.).tux. wrote:The remaining problem - which differs from the one in the topic title, I'm afraid - is that exiting XY by try icon behaves strange in some ways. Apologies if you know this by heart, but the easiest way for testing purposes, is to copy only XYplorer.exe and XYcopy.exe to an empty folder and run XYplorer.exe from there (after quitting your regular XYplorer-instance). That way, you can leave your current config alone.tux wrote:Should I reset my config, maybe?

So it is a bug, actually: The saved window state can be different from the setting.nas8e9 wrote:That's expected: with Save settings on exit, enabled, XYplorer persists the window state (maximised, minimised, etc.).

Yeh, I did something like that in the past; to be precise, I deleted the config and it worked, so ...nas8e9 wrote:Apologies if you know this by heart, but the easiest way for testing purposes, is to copy only XYplorer.exe and XYcopy.exe to an empty folder and run XYplorer.exe from there (after quitting your regular XYplorer-instance).
Gonna investigate - thanks!

Re: How to make XY open a new tab by default?
I don't believe so: enabling Startup & Exit > Startup minimized, will always start XYplorer minimised regardless of the last saved state (whether that will send XYplorer to the tray or the taskbar depends on other settings). Without Startup minimized, enabled, the last window state is restored if Save settings on exit, is enabled.tux. wrote:So it is a bug, actually: The saved window state can be different from the setting.nas8e9 wrote:That's expected: with Save settings on exit, enabled, XYplorer persists the window state (maximised, minimised, etc.).
The two tray-related settings have no direct bearing on XYplorer's startup; only indirectly, in case XYplorer is minimised on startup as described above.

Re: How to make XY open a new tab by default?
So when I choose to save settings and other things take preference over these settings, it is "expected"?

Re: How to make XY open a new tab by default?
Perhaps I've lost track: you've disabled Startup & Exit > Startup minimized, and now expect XYplorer to always start maximised?tux. wrote:So when I choose to save settings and other things take preference over these settings, it is "expected"?
If so, I can see why you'd assume that, but it's not what that setting says or indeed does: it only makes XYplorer start always minimised if enabled. If disabled, as I tried to describe in my previous post, the window state on exit in combination with Save settings on exit, being enabled, can have the same effect as Startup minimised being enabled: minimising XYplorer on restart.
