Various Wishes

Post by jacky »

It seems I just like to keep you busy & busy & .... ;)

 In the toolbar, I'd love a button for Calculate Folder Sizes :D

 I'd like a command to calculate folder size only for selected ones. Yes, I know the trick with the Properties panel - and btw:
Activate Properties & select a folder, size is calculated.
Select folder and then choose properties, not calculated :/
(Note that I dont want you to calculate the size all the time of course, but if the option is enabled, when activating the properties panel then calculate)

And back on topic, it's just that I sometimes need to calculate size for a few folders, so a way to select them & go would be nice. ;)

And(/or) when it's being calculated through the properties panel, once calculated could the size be added to the list (column Size) ? I'd really love that too :D

 When using a command copy/move in a new folder, the default name is "New Subfolder" ; could there be a way to make it the filename of the focused item (minus the extension if you want) ?
(Not that I want the folder to use that name, but many many times folder's name will be the first part of the filenames; ie. files are "Project Whatever - Report of something.txt" and the folder will be "Project Whatever"; so that way instead of typing it back (and risquing a typo) i could just remove the last part ;))

 kind of a bug, I think: we can't change sort order if there are no items :/ (I know its really nothing but...)

 I'd like "something" (TBbutton, key, mouse trick) to switch to the first item of the "other kind" (file/folder) (that only makes sense using Sort Folders Apart obvisouly, but who doesn't? ;))
What I mean is for example, when I go to a folder, sorted by name. When I sort by size, date or whatever, files are now on top of the list. I'd like to select a file and then have something to send focus to the first item that is not a file, aka a folder.
Right now I can dbl-click to bring the focused item (first folder from previous name order) back on top, but that folder can be anywhere on the folder list (doesnt have to be the newest one or whatever)

Thoose are just ones I thought of, but I wouldn't actually used them, or can live without, so I don't really care that much whether or not you go for them :P

 Dbl-click on an empty area in the List while having a multi-selection will loose the selection. Could it keep it and move to the higher item on the list instead?

 "Move Here As" is disabled for multi-files, why not enable it with a batch rename?

 When dragging items on the catalog and holding Ctrl (to copy them) maybe having a little plus sign somewhere could be nice?

EDIT: oops I forgot, is the menu "View/List Style/Line Numbers" really usefull?? I mean its just the same as "View/Show Columns/Line Numbers" right? So doesnt really make sense to have it there too dont you think?

A boolean search containing "AND VisualFilterPattern" will do the same for you

Seriously, I would immediately do it if it wouldn't slow down the search even if no VF is enabled! Because even testing for this costs some time. And I want to stay the fastest search in the world!

Well, okay, there is a possibility... bump me in 2 weeks...

Agreed, I don't want to slow anything either :) Just thought you could either apply the VF after the search; or "add it" to the search, but I realize that that maybe wouldn't work if RegExp mode in used...

Anyways, I'll bump this in a couple of weeks ;)

And just to maybe inspire you of some of thoose other whishes 8)

Yes!! Get sizes of only selected folders. I would like this too.

I use the line numbers and most often turn them on/off via the List Style menu, out of habit, as it seems more convenient, but as it can be done via other menu, that's fine...I'll adjust
Still spending WAY TOO much time here! But it's such a pleasure helping XY be a treasure!

Well, it is in View/Show Columns/Line Numbers, and therefore it can also be done by right-click on the Name column-header ;)

Here is my decision: I leave the "Line Numbers" as they are. Two ways to do one thing is okay in this case. Hugh.

Don't let MY usage of the alternate path to the option stop you from removing it! I just started doing it that way but it's very easy to change my methods, given that it's just a slightly different menu option...

And Thanks for the "calculate selected folder sizes" option. Saves a lot of time. Cute toolbar icon too. :D
