Dear Don:
Is it possible to add an option to make Catalog a third pane, with full vertical distance, on the right hand side of the XY window?
Here are the motivations:
1. Most modern laptop screens have much more horizontal distance than vertical distance, thus the Catalog being in the same navigation panel as the Tree makes both the Tree and the Catalog too short for convenient viewing and clicking.
2. Typically the Catalog needs much less width than the Tree for a convenient display, since Catalog usually does not have a very complex hierarchy.
Since the screen is wide enough, if tech-wise possible, will that be an improvement if you add an option so that Catalog can be put as a third "column", on the right hand side, while the nav. pane on the left? Then both will have much more vertical distance for a greater visual field. And again, the third pane of Catalog can be very narrow, literally like a strip, or even a bar, as long as users keep the entry names concise, or, iconization would be even nicer!
Is that a possibility?
Best regards,
Huidong

Re: Catalog as a separate pane?
Thanks. I knew that plan of change, mainly for the sake of a larger preview. I said "add an option", namely provide a switch to give greater flexibility/customizability in terms of the layout. For instance, even if the info panel can be moved to the right, users probably will still be able to choose not to. Think about the "Find Files" tab of the info panel, it will be a bad experience if in a vertical view instead of the current horizontal view, if you are able to imagine. Further more, I am not a big fan of that change, because the full-screen preview and quick file view are sufficiently convenient to me, esp. with single-key shortcut assigned.eil wrote:there were such requests already, and i think feature was taken in consideration. yet it was planned to place info panel from the bottom to the right.. but who knows what will be in final
In short, what I wish is an added option.

Re: Catalog as a separate pane?
As you see here: there are lots and lots of combinations that users would like to have. And I don't think Don can implement (many of) them.eil wrote:there were such requests already, and i think feature was taken in consideration. yet it was planned to place info panel from the bottom to the right.. but who knows what will be in final
For me the only help would be tearable windows for the panes - then you could tear off any pane from where it's located, and maybe append it anywhere you wish. But I don't know if this is possible with VB.
(This solution would have some more advantages, for example if using multiple screens...)

Re: Catalog as a separate pane?
Are you suggesting that one had better be silent because too many other people are talking? Do not attempt to think with Don's mind. At least I see him taking suggestions into consideration very quickly and bettering XY this way, as long as the suggestions are sound and not too wild. Thanks.PeterH wrote: As you see here: there are lots and lots of combinations that users would like to have. And I don't think Don can implement (many of) them.

Wow, what a pair of minds who both love attempting to think with others' mind... just kidding
Anyway, thanks for the interpretation. Important to comment well on codes!

Oops, not an advanced version of my idea, but instead merely requesting an advanced version of XY. Tear-able? Hope Don responds to this challenge!eil wrote:i don't think PeterH was anything about silencing. he was more about of advanced version of your idea
